Wiring Floor Plans

With the architects plans I used Visio to create wiring plans for each of the three floors. Each termination point is identified by type of outlet or sensor which determines the type of wire that is needed. By using the scale drwings I was able to determine the length of each wiring run and then the cumulative amount of wire needed for each wire type. Also could identify number of each sensor needed, the voltage drain on the Elk by all the powered sensors, and the number of wire terminations needed at the mechanical room. Here is the first floor which includes the new mechanical room.

What Visio template did you use, for those switch and outlet images?

One of my dozens of projects that will never get finished is to diagram my whole house.

I bought a laser measurer this weekend - sick of battling the tape measure.

I had to hunt to find most of the low voltage shapes and I ended up creating many of them myself. The line voltage shapes I got from the Visio Telecom and Electrical US template. If you PM your address I can email you the shapes in a .vst file.

I like the work you are doing on this house. I am in the building stage (foundation) and would like to plan a good HA wiring design. Do you have any advice for a noob?

Yea, I have read through those multiple times. I am just nervouse about settling on design. Framing and electric will be here in a month and I feel overwelmed coming up with a workable plan. Wish I had a drawing(s) like yours for my floorplan. Do you contract out design work?
