Odds and ends and starting a new driver

Posted by Shinyshoes , 15 October 2012 · 726 views

Just a quick update with some little odds and ends I have been cleaning up.

I'm very happy to report that since I "Extended" the antenna in my driveway sensor receiver has been performing flawlessly.  Hopefully I can finally put that issue to bed and move on.

I have also been busy adding some electrical plugs and switches in the garage.  I...

Fall is here, back to automation

Posted by Shinyshoes , in Nuvo Grand Concerto, Premise, Sensors, Weeder Digital I/O, Wiring 26 September 2012 · 797 views

Once again I have been very tardy in updating this blog.  Surprise Surprise.

As Indicated in the last entry, Summers are very busy for my family and I.  We just moved into our dream house on an acreage in Feb 2010.  This means that all the work that goes along with a new house, not to mention all the work that goes on at an acreage quickly sucks up the...

Gone for 8 months. Back with renewed focus.

Posted by Shinyshoes , in Sensors, Premise, Nuvo Grand Concerto, Uncategorized 21 February 2012 · 251 views

Well, it has been 8 months since I last posted a blog entry.  WOW!  Reading that blog post seems like that all happened so long ago.  It makes me feel good that I am making progress, albeit slowly. I thought that the blog’s section of cocoontech used to allow me to back-date posts, but I don’t see that feature anymore.  Hence, this post will...

Trigger for Nuvo paging and more UIRT problems.....

Posted by Shinyshoes , in Premise 02 June 2011 · 188 views
Computers, Premise, Wiring and 2 more...
Since my last post I have been still struggling with getting a relay to trigger the paging system on the Nuvo.  I bought a simple 12vdc automotive relay hoping that the 5vdc output from the Weeder would be enough to trigger it.  Alas, it was not.

While I was wiring it up, I noticed that my driveway sensor has a triggered 12V output on it.  Right now, the...

My "Hello World" in Premise

Posted by Shinyshoes , in Wiring, Weeder Digital I/O, Sensors, Premise, Nuvo Grand Concerto 02 May 2011 · 164 views

Friday was a big milestone for me with Premise.  I have been able to make changes to the state of devices in premise like turning concerto zones on and off but I had yet to have premise actually react automatically to something.  That all changed on Friday.

I had been dragging my feet on getting the driveway sensor burried because I didn't have my...

Spring installations (or, fun in the attic)

Posted by Shinyshoes , 26 April 2011 · 180 views

Spring has arrived and it is time to get to the projects I have been listing over the last couple of blog posts.  It was finally warm enough this weekend I could get started on the attic work I have been putting off.

I dusted off the ladder and hopped up into the attic.  I got the measurements I needed to find the boxes in the ceiling of the garage.  We...

Cleaning up after the party.

Posted by Shinyshoes , 06 April 2011 · 107 views

It’s been a while. I know. Sorry.

Nothing major to report on in the 2 months since my last post, but a ton of minor things.  I have been madly cleaning up the mechanical room wiring.  It had been a disaster ever since I was in a rush trying to get a bunch of stuff done prior to my New Year’s Eve party.  I have a rack that opens to the right, but had run a...

Concerto To Grand Concerto Upgrade

Posted by Shinyshoes , 16 February 2011 · 258 views

While I was struggling to make progress on the USBUIRT front, I finally recieved my MCU Board from my local Nuvo Dealer.

First some background:  I while ago I found a used Nuvo Concerto on Ebay with none of the wall plates included.  It was considerably cheaper than buying one that was complete, so I ended up with a really good deal.  Since I was going...

Roadblocks everywhere

Posted by Shinyshoes , 19 January 2011 · 182 views

Grrrr!

The last 2 weeks have been very frustrating.  I am still having trouble getting my USBUIRT working on a virtual Premise server.  I tried 3 different software USB over IP solutions to try to get the UIRT passed through to the virtual machine and none of them will work properly.  So now I have split my attention into 3 different possible...

Recovering Hard Drive Space from virtual machines

Posted by Shinyshoes , 17 December 2010 · 73 views

When i first started using Hyper-V and virtual machines, I didn't know much about the system.  Therefore, when I went through the wizard to set up a new machine, I simply used the default values provided by the wizard, which include using 127GB as the Virtual Hard Drive size.

While this was fine initially, I only have 1 TB of space on my RAID array. ...
