The main product Elk was displaying was their much anticipated wireless sensor line. Elk announced their intention of coming out with their own wireless sensor product last year, and spent the time since then perfecting the technology.
Elk will be coming out with a new wireless transceiver, three door/window type sensors, and a mini key fob.
CocoonTech has an extensive listing of iPad Mounts, with Premier Mountsincluded in that listing. They were displaying a lot of their iPad mounts in their ISC West booth. One in-wall solution is shown below.
CocoonTech visited the Optex booth at the ISC Westconference to report on their motion detector products. They offer many passive infrared motion detection solutions including the FTN series, which is made to detect short and narrow areas such as a walkway, alleyway, or side of a house.
These detectors output dual beams, one parallel, and one at an angle pointing to the ground. Both beams need to be broken for a detection alarm, making them pet immune. This FTN series has a single detection pattern of 16 feet.
CocoonTech visited the Mobotix booth to see what new products they were showcasing at this year's ISC West show. Mobotix is a German company that makes security cameras, but what makes their cameras unique is they strive to have each model be a complete decentralized and independent solution for your video monitoring needs, as they have an included DVR inside the camera that records on an SD card!
CocoonTech visited many booths during the ISC Westconference in Las Vegas, NV. Here is a summary of some of the displayed products which merited a quick review. If interested, please go to the individual websites listed for additional information on these products.
CocoonTech visited with David Steele, Chief Engineer of ELK Products during the ISC West 2011conference. They were showcasing two new product lines, their new wireless security sensors and the new touchscreen keypad!
CocoonTech visited the Black Hawk Labs(MiniRaQ) booth at the ISC Westconference. They had a mini rack kit that would let one mount 19" rack mountable equipment vertically in a space savings footprint! This would be a very attractive solution for someone who has rack mountable gear that they want to put into a small space such as a wiring closet, yet doesn't take up the depth a normal rack would!
CocoonTech visited the 2GIG Technologies booth to see their new and popular alarm security systems that were being displayed at this year's ISC Westconference. The 2GIG alarm systems have grown very popular with professional installers since they were put on the market in the recent year, mainly due to their economical system pricing!
If you see this announcement, then you have made it to the new server. If you run into any errors, please let me know ASAP, and I will look into it. If you notice performance is different (slower or faster), let me know as well. Thanks!
As announced earlier this week, CocoonTech.com 2.5 is being launched in phases, and the next step involves moving to a new server. This move itself is expected to take about 5 minutes or so, but it might be a while before you see the new server due to DNS updates.
You can still access the chat room by clicking the Chat link on top of this page, or connect with your IRC compatible chat client to irc.marstracker.com port 6667, #cocoon.
I have decided to start rolling out some of the new CocoonTech.com 2.5 features in a staggered fashion. There is so much involved that it doesn't make any sense to release this all at once, as this will make things just more complicated. So in the next few weeks, you will see new features which hopefully will make you guys happy! If you have any questions or comments about these new features, please post them in the Feedback forum.
The first major feature to be rolled out is 'Lists'. I'll start with the iOS and Android home automation apps lists, so you have an idea of what this is all about. There are many more lists planned (and some are ready to be launched), which should make it very easy to find what you are looking for. This feature is inspired on the original iPhone apps list I created last year, which is a huge success. Check it out, and play around with the filters.
- Android Apps: This list contains all the apps, which focus on home automation, home security and home theaters for the Android platform. Over 40 apps already!.
- iOS Apps: Similar to the Android Apps list, but for all iOS devices. There are over 200+ apps already!
New apps are added/updated multiple times a day, and more lists are coming. I am convinced this will become one of CocoonTech's most valuable features very quick! Stay tuned for more updates very soon!
The process to upgrade the forums and other various back-end components has been started. The portal and chat room will stay online, so this is a great time to check out some of the other CocoonTech.com features, or join us in the chat room, it's pretty busy already!
Expected downtime will hopefully be very minimal, but it can be a few hours before it's back online. I am in the chat room as well, so if you need to get a hold of me, find me there!
PS: You can ignore the "Error loading feed data." error, it is the result of the forums being down, and will go away once they are back up.
By request, I have enabled an SSL version of the AJAX based IRC client. You can find it by going to the Community > Chat menu, or use the direct link.
