I am going to post the press release here as it isn't directly "CocoonTech" related, but it is interesting because unlike the other Keyspan Device server, this one supports more than just a printer or other basic devices.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SILEX TECHNOLOGY® AMERICA INTRODUCES NEW SIMPLE-TO-USE, AFFORDABLE USB DEVICE SERVER

silex SX-1000U USB Device Server Provides Shared Network Functionality of USB Devices Such as Multi-function Printers

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4, 2005 — silex technology america, Inc., a leading provider of wired and wireless network connectivity technology, today announced the availability of the SX-1000U USB device server specifically designed to easily and cost effectively connect nearly any USB device directly to a network allowing them to be shared among many people. The SX-1000U will be shown for the first time during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 6-9 at the Innovations Plus pavilion booth IP 533.

For example, multi-function (MFP) or all-in-one (AIO) printers have become very popular devices for homes, small offices, businesses, and workgroups since they conveniently combine popular functions such as printing, copying, scanning, fax, and storage within one device. The SX-1000U is one of the only technologies available that allows all of this functionality to be shared by everyone on the network.

"silex is all about making it possible for people to get more out of their printers and devices on the network," said Keith Sugawara, silex vice president of networking division. "We are pleased to add the SX-1000U to our family of world-class USB device servers. It allows us to offer the same technology at an affordable price for everyone—satisfying the growing demand for USB network connectivity."

The SX-1000U is a true USB device server and like all of silex's device servers connect nearly any USB device to a network including printers, scanners, storage devices, electronic whiteboards, digital cameras and even MP3 audio players—easily converting them into shared resources. Enterprise workgroups, home networks, or small branch offices benefit from the convenience of accessing conventional USB devices that would normally be available only at individual PCs.

SX-1000U—The SX-1000U is a one-port, 10/100 Base-TX USB device server designed to connect USB devices directly to a network. It includes:

* SX-Virtual Link, a USB utility that allows the PC to virtually recognize the peripheral as a directly attached device over hard-wired Ethernet instead of a physical USB cable connection. Because of this, users can still take advantage of the convenience of the bundled USB device tools including the device operation status monitoring over the network just as if they are using it locally.
* Compatibility with Windows XP and Windows 2000
* silex's Web browser administrator manager utilities
* Enhanced security IP filtering
* MSRP of $99

Availability

The SX-1000U is available immediately through all silex resellers and from select retail outlets nationwide.

silex product photos and spec sheets are available upon request.
