Haiku Haiku Losing Connection

After using Haiku for almost a year with flawless results, I am suddenly faced with a big problem. Within the past day or 2 I cannot seem to be able to keep my iPad (which is permanently installed at my front door) connected to Haiku. When I start up Haiku, I see the "establishing connection" notice for a fraction of a second. However it doesn't actually connect. I see the "wheel" at the top of the iPad screen (next to the wireless strenght indicator) spinning. When I try turn on my alarm, I get the "Validating Code" message. I have the same problem with Haiku on my personal iPad.

I cannot imaging it's a wirelss problem. My access point is located within feet of the permanently installed iPad and I get the same behavior with my iPad even as I move about the house and connect to different access points.

Please help.

PS: Could this have anything to do with a conflict in ports? The only change I can think of that I've recently made around my home is to add an HTPC to my home theater set up. My Omnitroller is on the default port (4369).

Also try power cycling the controller. There is a bug in the current version of Haiku where when the controller does not respond it will fail to let you know that the connection could not be established. This will be fixed in the next update. But it looks like the real issue is either that your controller needs to be restarted (there is a firmware bug on HAI controllers that can sometimes cause the networking portion to fail) or that your connection parameters are incorrect (ie. address or port).

Interesting. I had tried force quitting Haiku a couple of time. I had also tried power cycling the iPad itself. Neither of those solutions seem to work. I then verified that I was able to communicate with the controller through the PC access software. In short, nothing was working. However, early this morning, the system suddenly seemed to work again. I have no idea why, but haiku was able to connect to the controller and operate it. I am keeping a close eye on the situation and will report if I have the same problem again.

OK, it happened again last night. But, I think I know why. As I've noted, I have an iPad running Haiku permanently mounted at the front of the house. I also have the app on my personal iPad. Last night I tired to arm my system from my personal iPad. It would not connect and my front door iPad suddenly lost its connection as well. I force closed Haiku on both iPads and then restarted it on ONLY the front door iPad. It connected right away and is working fine.

In the past, I thought I had been able to have more than one device running Haiku connect to the controller at the same time. Now it seems like I cannot.

Any ideas?

You sure can, but the limit I believe is 10 simultaneous connections, this includes Haiku, OmniTouches, PC Access, SnapLink, etc. if you are under 10 devices and still having trouble, power cycle your controller and the problem should clear up. To power cycle, first unplug the negative battery terminal on the controller, then unplug the power adapter from the wall. Wait about 20 seconds and plug the adapter back in. Now, reconnect the battery and in a few seconds you should have everything working again.

Well the problem cropped up again. I tried to connect through an iPod. I force closed Haiku on it and even powered it off. But the iPad won't connect. I tried your recommendation to power cycle the controller. Still no luck. This is a very serious problem, primarily because it's not consistent. I have not idea how to trouble shoot it and right now I can't set my alarm and I've guests waiting for me. Not good.

Either the controller needs a power cycle (due to the bug) or there are connectivity issues on your network. Check that your controller and your iPad have a working network connection. Can't really be anything else.

I agree. It's got to be one of those. I power cycled the controller twice, so it seems like that's not the problem. Logically it shouldn't be a network issue: I've got a wireless access point less than 15 feet from the iPad. However, I'm beginning to think that's part of the issue. What I can't figure out is how the multiple Haiku aspect fits in. The problem only seems to surface when I connect with another iOS device running Haiku. I'm going to run some experiments (e.g. give the fixed iPad a static IP address) and see what happens. I will report back if and when I'm able to get to the bottom of this.

What controller model are you using?

Also if you have any wifi repeaters they can often cause network instability/reachability issues.
