Old school console retrofit - Something I've always wanted to do

Looks like a lot of fun!  Nice result.  Do you have a fan in that giant case?  AVR run hot?

Once I put the back on, I'll have a fan or two.  But there is a great big opening under the receiver and the back is all holes.  So lot's od air flow..

Very nice Sam!

In the 1960's recall the massive Sears Silvertone combo entertainment unit in the family room.  It was a very nice piece of furniture.

Somewhere here I have an old Akai stacked reel to reel with all day recordings of Chicago WCFL and WLS from the 1960's and FM from the 1970's (thinking the "king biscuit flower hour recordings).  I don't even know if I could play back the tapes these days.

This one was a Sears Silvertone.  I just sold my reel to reel a couple of months ago.  And I remember King Biscuit Flower Hour on WXRT back in the day as well.  Great stuff.

My favorite "stereo" store was Musicraft back then. One of the old (well really old now) employee for Musicraft now owns a stereo shop in Orland Park / Tinely Park.  He has a radio show.  I used to golf with him and a few folks daybreak Sunday mornings in the 1980's/90's.

That said had a friend in the 1970's with a stereo store (well two) who would provide a state of the art set up just about every month while going to school in Chicago; I would sell it for extra money and get another one just about every month.

I recall around that time having a neighbor who worked for Triangle productions who would get me (and a friend) press passes to all of the concerts in Chicago they took care off.  Really better seats, sound and treatments.  Aragon Ball room was my favorite place.

A lot of nights spent at the Aragon.  Saw some great shows.  Where did you go to High School?

South Suburbs.  Remember weekend day trips to "old town" in the late 60's and Hyde Park in the early 60's.

Went to Loyola afterwards and lived on Sheridan road almost in front of Mundelein College.  I would take the L to the Aragon back then.

Just thought about the Akai reel to reel recorder.  Its actually my second one.  First one I had was in the 1960's.  Second one is still in the box new.  It was a gift from a friend many years ago who purchased it in Japan in the 1960's.  He never opened it or used it putting it in storage.  He gave it to me in the 1980's and I never looked at it.

Thinking I will have a look see in the next few days.

I lived in the city and lived in Roger's Park just north of Loyola in the late seventies, right on the beach.  Great memories.

Yup it was early 70's when I lived there and very nice memories.

I would sit on the back steps of the Madonna Della Strada sometimes to study.

Getting there you had to sort of jump as the water then as the lake water went to the back steps.  No landfill at that time.

Thanks for the kind words all.  It has been fun.  Finally got the Harmony 650 working the way I want.  Now I just need to bundle the wiring and close it up.  Very pleased.  And best of all, so is the wife :)

You mention a Harmony 650....

I have one too and needed to update it. I've had mine for years and used the software, but now there is myharmony.com which is a web-based configuration tool. I was able to import my settings from the software (well... it didn't really work out too well!), but the reason I did it is because I noticed as of a few weeks ago Logitech upped the device support from 4 to 8!

Thought I'd mention it if you weren't aware :)
