SageTV Re-Install Error

I'm completely baffled on this one.

I had my SageTV server motherboard crash and am trying to install SageTV on another Win XP computer.

I have version six of SageTV and downloaded the latest video driver as well as the latest Java platform.  I also have the latest .net framework 4.0 installed (and it's updates).

I have a Hauppauge WINTV-HVR-2250 capture card (downloaded its driver from Hauppauge's site) and am getting this error when trying to view the video source channels during the initial source setup.

The Hauppauge card installed correctly per the device manager.

I tried the above on yet another XP machine with the same Hauppauge card and still got the same error.

I looked this error up on SageTV's forums, and really didn't find anything related to my specific situation.  I'm hoping a SageTV user will recognize this error and give me some guidance, as I've spent waaaaayy to much time troubleshooting this already and am at my wit's end!

First, I'll say that I'm not sure why you're getting the error. I too found myself troubleshooting far to much with regard to installation procedures. I found that if certain steps where done in a certain order, it wouldn't work - the problem is that the steps for these sort of things aren't well documented.

What I found what that I had to install all hardware drivers before installing STV. For the HD-PVR's I used this procedure: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44511

Having said that, is there a reason that you are using v6? Do you know that you can get the v7 upgrade? http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56225

Thanks.

Per your advice I uinstalled, rebooted, ran the clear Hauppauge drivers program, rebooted, installed the HD-PVR driver (the latest one actually), rebooted, installed SageTV VERSION SEVEN, rebooted, and magically, everything worked! :)

I am guessing version seven might have fixed my problems, but as we all know, those Hauppauge drivers are indeed the anti-christ!

Many thanks again for your post as I did not know I could use my existing version six licenses for version seven per those two .exe files you linked to (I thought I was toast as I didn't upgrade before the big Google take-over)!!!

Glad to hear that you got everything working. I'm sooo patiently waiting for another media software to replace the capabilities that STV provides. It would be NICE to have a currently supported platform that was continuing to advance with capability. I know there are alternatives, but I LOVE the STV extenders and that's part of my requirement with any future system.

Yea, I've run this server for years, which is why I forgot how to set it up when it crashed!

I am having an odd problem with the client (version 7) on a Win7 (latest updates) machine.  When I go to a channel I get a blank screen until I hit the 'play from beginning' button.  Then it works.  When I switch channels, same thing.

Everything else on the client seems to work (Program Guide, etc...).

I have two media extenders working fine with this version seven.

I also see there is an option to upgrade my version 7 (on the server), but I'm a bit scared in doing so! ;)

I'm upgraded to the latest version of everything - working fine. I'm actually using a W7 Professional 64-bit host. Just create a backup point before you do the update, so you can restore to the previous if the update gives you any issues.

There have been updates to various plug-ins... which I generally check about every 3-6 months.

I don't have any PC clients; I have (3) HD-200 extenders (one at each TV in my house). I actually own a 4th, which I have loaned to a friend; we have a IPsec VPN setup between our homes and he's also able to access my recorded content and movie library. Having said that, it just acts as a Placeshifter - we were hoping that with the persistent VPN setup it would act as a standard extender on his end, but that is not the case.
