XEP programming - can receive to database, cannot send to XEP

I am trying to update some settings in my XEP module (remove Dynamic DNS info, update time server info, and update DNS server). I can connect on the local LAN using ELK RP2 2.0.20. The software tells me there is a conflict with the XEP setup and do I want to receive, or send. If I choose receive, all the data downloads from the XEP to my database without issue. If I select Send changes to XEP, the system will say "Sending to XEP", then "System did not respond. Connection may have been terminated". I can select "Retry" or "Cancel", but either one results in the message "Control has Disconnected" and I get disconnected. I updated the XEP to firmware 1.3.28, same issue. Updated control panel to 5.3.0, same issue. Tried using the jumper to change the ip to dynamic and tried again, same issue. Tried from another computer with RP2 installed, same issue. Rebooted panel, XEP, and router, same issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can connect via RP2, and app on my android device, just can't make any programming changes. A little hesitant to try upgrading to v2.

Try resetting the XEP to default yet?
I wanted to do this, but looking at the manual I was only finding information on shorting J2 jumper to switch between DHCP and default IP, not defaulting entire module. How do you go about defaulting it to blank slate?

Just saw the new manual and cautionary note...can't go back from a 2.X to 1.X FW.

I'd have to check the archives, but I believe from memory it was close to the same way with a power cycle sequence.

DEL,

I'm going to share that over on the other thread were we were discussing those who use the Java interface, because as I mentioned the new units are shipping with the latest firmware already loaded which means no Java interface.

The inability to roll back to 1.x and the cautionary note that if everything doesn't go right, you have an expensive paperweight are the reasons I haven't attempted to upgrade it yet. The only advantage to me would be the higher compatibility with SSL email services, but I'd rather deal with being able do download data into my XEP before I worry about that. Any new info on how to factory default the XEP?

I've updated 4 XEPs to the 2.x firmware without any issues - just follow the instructions provided.

I don't know how to fully default an XEP - never had a reason to do so.

Does it operate and perform pretty much the same minus the java interface? I've never needed the java interface and pretty much only use it for connecting with MyKeypad, and programming. Emails haven't really worked right even when using non SSL email providers. Some of the things I read almost made it seem like it was required to use the cloud services after updated. I hope that is incorrect. One of the things I love about my ELK is not having to pay a monthly fee to someone to allow remote access

Nothing changes from the interface or access of the XEP (from RP)... as you mentioned, the only difference is that it drops the Java interface, but adds SSL capability (and ability to utilize their cloud features). The "cloud" stuff is optional - I've never used it.

OK, I think I will go ahead and install the new 2.x firmware and if I'm lucky, my problem will be solved. Interestingly, I found the XEP diagnostic utility when going to the support site to get the new firmware. When I ran the utility it informs me that my "M1XEP's MAC address is invalid. Please contact Tech Support about this." How is this even possible. I better not have to replace this thing.

I would post this to the elk support forum, Brad over there is very good. I'd also try re-installing your current version of firmware before attempting version 2. It can't hurt.

Mike.

I did try to re flash the 1.3.8 fw and it did not help. I went ahead and did the 2.0.2 few update and it appears to be working again. I even set up a few emails using an SMTP server that previously gave some trouble and the emails work great as well.

Glad to hear :)
