PIPO X7 Windows 8.1 Smart Mini PC

Good deal there for a new Intel "Ark" Celeron CPU based micro system.

Looks like the "Bay Trail" name has been replaced now with "Ark".

Funny comments:

Someone did mention that the clock speed is more around 1.3 versus 1.8Ghz.  And that it would have some issues maybe transcoding with Plex even though its being sold as a TV Box. Other folks have mentioned that it does fine with video.  It is a great price.

want to confirm before I purchase this:

So this a quadcopter that has HDMI, and can be run as a Plex server?

CPU got a 982 benchmark, to transcode 1080p you want at least a passmark of 2,000. So no, not the greatest computer for a plex server.

Found a $10 off code for this mini pc via geekbuying: OINCBGQX

Here is a review on it.  The comments on Slickdeals are very entertaining.  The coupon is working for a few folks taking the price then to around $89.00 USD with free shipping.

I do recall seeing the first generation newer dual core celerons in a mini pc box which I was going to order from China for ~ $99.00 USD to make it a new Homeseer box (well running in Linux) back in July, 2014.  Later on those same boxes where sold here closer to $200.

Good find.  Interesting that the cost of an entire computer with Windows 8.1 is lower than the MSRP for Windows 8.1 alone!

Ha, thanks NeverDie - already have one! I haven't done anything with it yet, it's still in the box looking for a purpose.

Today  / yesterday went on a Gamestop tour of sorts purchasing Kinects and GameStick stuff.

I was asked to pick up some Gamestick Docking stations while on my little tour.

I was curious about the GameStick docking station on sale for $4.97 made by Pivos/ PlayJam.

I asked why the want of multiple docking stations.  I learned today that you can replace / install XBMC on these little boxes.

Amazing there appears to be a Gamestop on every street corner around here.

Reading some more...you install an XBMC rom on the gamestick and use the docking cradle for the network piece....

Here I purchased the PiPoX7.  I did install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on it then went back to it in Wintel and upgraded it to Windows 10.  It did OK running Ubuntu/Windows but it does only have 2Gb of ram which did work fine.

It is connected to a multitouch capacitance screen (tinkering) and currently running the Amazon Alexa Homesee Plugin (sans Echo) and the Homeseer Microsoft Kinect stuff (with Kinect).  Works fine.  Only using one of the Kinects right now.

The Gamestop Android devices were shipped over to a friend in the UK earlier this year and my search and purchase was for friend as the dried up in the UK within days (well here too).
