Replace GE DesignLine Window/Door Sensors

I replaces all my GE DesignLine door/Window sensors with Elk 6021 2-way equivalent. Once a year, some random false alarm would trigger. They have been installed for a month, and I haven’t experienced any false alarms. The Elk sensors are in fact very slim, and I like the pure white outside. I did experience a few issues that I hope that Elk will address.
  1. The sensor should ship split open. In order to open without destroying sensor, you should use a dime to open.
  2. The double sided tape should be easily peeled on both sides. For some reason, only one side can be easily removed. The second side requires a sharp knife or lots of rubbing with fingernail.
  3. The sensor should ship with name brand batteries. Out of twelve sensors, three batteries showed voltages around 3v instead of 3.4v. One battery was at 2v.
  4. The range does not appear to be as long as with the GE versions. I don’t know if 319Mhz vs. 900Mhz frequency has anything to do with range. I compared the sensors side by side at different ranges. The 6021 range is sufficient for majority of houses. I did mount my Elk 2-way M1XRFTW receiver upstairs in a closet.
  5. The instructions fail to mention that when installing in double-hung window application the opening slot should be placed outward. Otherwise, you will not be able to easily replace the battery. In short-hand, install the sensors on right side of window. I had to remount a few after I realized this mistake.

I am going to keep my GE receiver operating because I need my RE104 driveway sensor, and I doubt Elk will build one similar to Resolution Products.
