omni iie phone dialer problem

For years I've had a rule that calls my mobile phone when my driveway sensor is tripped and the system is set to away mode and it work fairly well. Over that last 6+ months when it calls it will not play the announcement and will not respond to key presses.  If I dial in independently, it will respond to the yes and voice prompts will work.  To make matters worse, it then keep calling every few minutes for about 4 times.  I've tried adding pauses and beep, but it still will not work consistently.

I would like to switch to the email notifier, but I've heard it's buggy.  I'm currently on 3.11 - I can only upgrade with a ROM replacement.  Any help would be appriciated.

Have you changed anything on the line to the panel?
Added voice mail or call waiting or anything?
Does the dialer work reporting to the central station (digital codes)?

I don't have a service with a central station so I don't know if the digital dialer works properly.  I'm now wondering if my answering machine could be interfering somehow.  The property is remote, but I can have someone disconnect it tomorrow to try it out.  My broadband connection is a DSL line that shares the same line, but that has been in place for many years now.

The issue you are describing sounds like a CPA issue.  Call Progress Analysis provides a sort-of "is someone there" trigger on the line.  It could simply be a phone company issue or an issue with devices on the line at the site location.

Also, DSL filters can degrade or be damaged.  After a period of time, having multiple devices on the line can also degrade the line because of oxygen inclusion in the copper wiring or due to a tear in the insulation and rain/moisture/humidity leakage into the line.

Removing devices from the line such as telephones is a great suggestion and may help, but ultimately you may want to have the phone company run a diagnostic on the line (ask for the line certification print-out).  You may also want to try another DSL filter or try a connection directly to the access terminal on the outside of the house using a portable DSL filter.

Personally, every time we had an issue with analog lines, tech would ask for a line cert and the phone company would fix the issue as it was usually on their end.

You are correct - my experience with the email notifier is buggy.  Sometimes it emails, sometimes it won't. Personally I don't like it (but working on another option which I hope to post in the future).
