Haiku How to setup ibeacons

I am new to beacons but have years of experience with the OmniPro. I haven't been able to figure out where to start on setting up beacons and triggers. Any help pointing me to the right forum area or setup area in Space or HAI?

It's only supported in Space. You configure it from the controller settings section. So tap the top right action button on the home screen, select Show Controllers, tap Edit then tap your controller. Scroll down to the bottom and you will find the Smart Triggers section. There just add an iBeacon region and configure it as you need.

I am using the Piper Beacon.  I set it up.  Added the info into Space.  I set a flag as a trigger when entering the zone.  The flag has not turned ON or OFF when entering or leaving the zone yet.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.  It seems very simple. The beacon is seen within another app and I see the UDID info.   Space is running in the background as well as the Piper app. Not sure what I missed.

The only thing I am thinking is that I had to use another app to get the UDID for the beacon and I possibly do not have the correct UDID in Space. The one i am using shows as WGX beacon.  My default, it should be the one though and the

Which APP are you using to view the UUID? I have noticed that some 3rd party Apps display a different / wrong UUID.

I am using LightBlue.  I noticed the UUID was different today than yesterday.  It has not changed again but the range is terrible.  I do not see anywhere to set the range.  It is supposed to be 250 meters.  Anyway,  even when it is in range, the flag set to it does not turn ON.  It must be the wrong UUID.

I set up another beacon and it does not work either.

I have that APP also, and it does not read the UUID of my Beacons correctly. Hopefully you can find the correct UUID. Not all iBeacons allow you to adjust the range.

Jim,

What app are you using that works for your beacons?

Do the Radius beacons allow proximity settings?

The RAD iBeacons come with a free iPhone / iPad app that configures the settings (also a free iMAC app). You can change the UUID, set the power level, name the iBeacon etc....

I'm using the ones that run off of 5 volts and plug in a wall wart. They are 25$ each if you buy 10. All 10 shipped with the same UUUD, so you can just change the minor for each "room" or area you want to cover.

Here is a view of the APP

Many iBeacons brands all have the exact same UUID, have you tried to "Google" your brand and see what it might be?

Ok.  Thanks for the help Jim.  Can you create a larger zone by giving two beacon's the same UUID's.  I am trying to create a zone if I am home or not but want it to cover a larger area outside my home.

Yes, I believe that will work.

So, I have a beacon to turn a flag on when I enter the zone.  The issue is the beacon does not recognize me in the zone quick enough and therefore what I want to do is too late.  (open the garage door)

I have a flag turn on when I pass the car magnet at the front of the driveway.
So, I have the garage door open when the flag is ON when the magnet is passed and the flag from entering the beacon zone is on.  It never works.  I went to this method because the geographical region was not reliable in my area.  Now Space uses a smaller region and it is less reliable.

Any suggestions on a method to get this to work correctly?

Thanks

@serky: Perhaps the beacon signal is too weak/localized?

I have tested it and I get the flag on. I don't think it does it fast enough.   I leave Space running in the background but sometimes I go into the app and it is just a black empty screen and have to restart Space.

Could it be the cell and/or wifi is not connecting to the Omni quick enough?  I used to have my Geo Region a large distance so I would have time for the flag to turn on by the time I got to my house.

I too have noticed this problem often with Space.  I hope it is fixed in the next build.
