Looking for thermostat that can control 5+ zones

It would need to support external sensors. It is a new set up, so no existing HA controller or technology. I would like it to be able to easily remotely controlled. But it can be a stand alone unit.

Thanks

In this case, yes. However out of curiosity I would be interested in learning about other solutions as well.

Thanks

Do you mean full thermostat capabilities in 5 zones, like separate set points, fan modes and such?

A typical approach uses multiple t'stats connect to a zone controller (ZC) which handles the calls from the various thermostats. The ZC in turn controls the HVAC equipment and uses motorized dampers to control the air flow to the various zones.

There are lots of approaches depending what you want and how much you want to spend.  If you use a HAI Omni, than an omniStat2 is a good choice. The Omni can control them remotely, and they have a serial connection for other control.  You can connect external temp sensors to them so they can average the temps of several areas, and now Leviton even makes this remote control panel and temp sensor for them.  For example you can actually mount your OmniStat2s in a closet, and you use a remote control panel (or the Omni Pro II) to control them.  Of course 5 OmniStat2's and 5 remote controls are going to cost up in the $2K range, but if you have a $10M house, what's $2K?

I installed the Carrier/Bryant Zone Perfect system when I built our house over a decade ago, and it has served us well.  It supports 8 zones, with individual daily schedules for each zone.  The master thermostat can monitor and control all zones, and the remote thermostats show temperature and provide local control of each zone.  As I recall, it cost about $1000.

Another one, that I just happen to know about because we support it, is Tekmar. I don't know if it's totally applicable to your needs, but one to look into I guess.

I know RCS use to have a zoned system.  I've used a non-zone RCS thermostat for years and never had a single issue with it.  I would highly recommend the brand and I know it is compatible with a lot of different automation systems.

Personally I have it hooked up to my CQC system and the system automatically changes the thermostat set points based on the alarm status and some time based scenarios (resetting the set point early in the morning before people are up to disarm the alarm for example).
