HAI system gone crazy...

My problems started when I installed a new expansion enclosure - before then I had a rock-solid stable system with wireless and a single hardwire expander.
I started getting intermittent 'no controller data' messages on one or the other of the consoles.

The problem now is that even when I disconnect all expansions from the main board, I still get the same issue with the consoles. I have tried wiring them directly onto the board to rule out any wiring issues (makes no difference) and I have triple-checked that there is nothing silly like wiring an A data connection to a B.  I have also tried disconnecting the network as I read something about the lan port possibly being flooded.

At one point, no console was being recognised at all. I performed a full reset of the board (10 minutes with power off and no battery) after which I got back to the intermittent 'no controller data' error message, which is followed by a disarm prompt (the system is not armed) and beeping. Then, after about 10 seconds it goes back to normal for another minute or so.

Any ideas?

Just a guess.

1 - re upload firmware and configuration and do a warm reset
2 - disconnect NIC
3 - do a full reset of the board (battery and power)
4 - leave the NIC disconnected
5 - power up your OPII with battery and power.

How do you consoles look after this?

You can too if you want (it is a PITA) is just pull the console out and bench test it with one console plugged in.  There terminals can be removed easily enough.  I updated my initial OPII by doing this.

Thanks for that - one of the consoles now seems to be working ok, but the other one beeps continuously at random intervals, shows no controller data and sent an Aux Alarm Activate +Trip

Is there a way of testing if the console is faulty?

Personally to test one console here have taken a console over to the panel with short wires to OPII and disconnecting rest of the consoles.

Today keep one Omnitouch console above the expansion box just in case; but never see any issues with it.

There has been a similiar post to yours by another OPII panel user person relating to a similiar issue about seeing the no controller data stuff after an expansion board update.  I am thinking that person removed all of the expansion boards and the console problem remained?

It was suggested that maybe the expansion pin connections had been one off or something simiilar when initially installed.

I am wondering if you are seeing a comm issue with any other serial devices.  Here the Omnistat also acted up for me.  IE: kept seeing zero for temperatures rather than a no controller data message.

I would maybe try disconnecting all of the consoles, a serial cable PCA connection with that the whole warm boot, do another firmware update in the process anyways, cold boot reset thing to see how PCA connects without the consoles; then just test a keypad directly wired to panel via short cables rather than a console first?  In the last 10 years or so I have seen one OPII board (not mine) with an almost exploding capacitor near the power wires (the large capacitor).

Keep the network cable off while testing.

BTW recall you having a POTs line issue a while back.  Did you fix that?

I tried the above with no results. The expansion enclosure is fine but the wireless extender has had all its settings reset (maybe when I reset it) and the zones are not showing. I will have to try and re-register them.

I also tried swapping the consoles by unplugging the 4-pin jacks - the 'bad' one didn't work in the 'good' location and the 'good' one didn't work in the 'bad' location - struggling here to find a cause... yes, POTS issues were sorted long ago

Yes here have one panel configured with an HAI wireless device installed in case I needed it and only have configured it with one or two FOB's.

Other panel purchased the two styles the HAI wireless doowhats and never configured it.

Personally I would go slow and assume that you will not be able to use the panel for a bit of testing time.

I would dismantle your stuff baby steps like maybe keeping the panel inside of the HAI can?

Don't concern yourself with your wireless stuff until you get the basics working (serially connected stuff).

Disconnect everything and start only with the serially connected devices like one keypad and maybe one console.  (no zones no expansion no units no thermostat, no audio stuff, nada).  You can pull all of the terminal strips in sections. Keep the strips away from the panel such that you do not short anything out.

Another mechanism would be to just remove the panel,  bench test it with HAI Tech and maybe send it in for repairs?

Thinking there is an optional quick turn around time for HAI repairs if you are dependent on your OPII panel.

And another way would be to hot swap the panel with a spare.  I have swapped my panel out for upgrading and it did only take a few minutes even though it appeared to be an overwhelming endeavor when I first looked at doing it.

I tried the above and the console still just doesn't seem to work - I also tried the 7 and up arrow simultaneously while directly connected to the OP2 board to do a self-test and reset. Although the LEDs cycled correctly, the display just had ?????????????????????????????????????? and it didn't show any digits that I pressed.
Time for a new console?

i can't believe how many components they contain. I think HAI still builds everything with TTL logic.

Here and there have only installed 1-2 keypads for my OmniPro stuff and gone to Omnitouch 5.7, 5.7e's and Omnitouch Pro software.

Works fine this way for me but not really for wife.

My wife today prefers the Omnitouch console touchscreens over my custom stuff created with Homeseer cuz I was making the screens too busy.

Today most of the touchscreens are off at night or during the day or running a clock, pictures, movies screen savers.

Well and the basic Omnitouch screens are a bit too much information for wife such that she only touches the thermostat settings and nothing else these days.

Sometimes simplier is better; IE: keypad only and you doing the back end stuff with no visibility to the automation stuff except for you.

I'm seeing a very similar problem. I added an expansion enclosure to my omnipro 2. I have 4 lcd consoles and one or two of them started acting erratically with "No controller data" and/or random lcd messages. The other consoles said "system ok" but reported all the new zones connected to the expansion enclosure as "Not Ready". Fortunately the problem disappears as soon as I turn off the expansion board.

HAI did send me a new expansion board. Same problem. So now I suspect some kind of console/enclosure address conflict. However all the Lcd console addresses are unique and the dip switch on the expansion enclosure is set for 1 board. The expansion board status led is blinking normally at 1/sec. I would love to get my expansion board working. Did you fix your problem?

No, I was never able to bottom it out and just bought a new console

Try it?  You have nothing to lose right eh?

Here it's been a few years now had a similiar issue with an OmniTouch 3.5" touchscreen which I could not return for service.

I think you can return the omni keyboards for service today.

I fat fingered the power / serial wires on it and it ended up giving me a "NO CONTROLLER DATA" message.

I started with one SMD; then more SMD replacements.  It didn't work.

It would be nice to have a schematic of the Keyboard / Omnitouch hardware.
