Haiku Haiku with slow speech notifications?

I started receiving voice notifications on my IPad with Haiku in which the voice sounds really slow (almost like a drunken stupor).  It doesn't always act this way so am trying to isolate what is the cause.  Is the slow/slurred speech caused by an overtaxed iPad cpu, OP2 or desktop (which is running Haiku Helper)?
 
In Space i don't get a voice just a ding.  Any ideas why I am occasionally getting slow speech on Haiku voice notifications?

It must be an issue in Haiku, we haven't seen it before though. You can enable voice in Space's settings (in the Settings app on iOS), it uses a newer native API with much better speech quality.
