Trane XL850 Integration

Has anyone been able to successfully pair a Trane XL 850 tstat with the omnipro? It has zwave capabilities and I can assign it to my network and add the node ID in PC access but I still get an error in Haiku and cannot control it. I see similar topics from several years ago, but wondering if that has changed. I have a new variable speed HVAC system (which I love) but they require proprietary tstats.

Frankly, the entire Zwave integration process with the omnipro is a mess, especially compared to the newer systems out today, and I'm not sure I am doing it properly. I have working locks and a few zwave appliance modules, but this device does not seem to want to work. Thanks in advance!

I can guarantee that this will never work. The only thermostats that the Omni can control are Leviton thermostats, and the only wireless supported for these is Zigbee.

Any particular reason? Seems it can't be that difficult and I already have the option in PCA. The Omni provides integration for a whole host of non-Omni products.

The main reason is because Trane doesn't want an open system, and they want to sell you their components and remote access service.  The Omni supports the Carrier Infinity and Bryant Evolution but only because these companies sell a device that adds connectivity (about $800 extra) and HAI added the protocol to support it. I have heard that this Carrier interface has been discontinued.

You need to blame Trane, not Leviton.

Why aren't other wireless thermostats supported? Because it takes time and testing, and do you think Leviton is going to support that so you can by another company's thermostat? Nope. Guess how many non-Apple devices iTunes supports? Hmmm... I wonder why?

Does Trane publish an API for either wifi access to their tstats, or api access to their online (Nexia)?

Thanks,
Dan

Trane does make a Z-Wave thermostat, the Trane XR524, so you might be able to control that, but the crazy thing is, this thermostat can only control simple single-stage cooling systems, not the variable speed ones Trane also makes. On the API, you will probably need to ask Trane directly.

Thanks!  The thermostat is their XL824
It's set up with a 2 stage condenser unit.

I'll check on communication protocols, but they may not be straightforward.  The manual indicates Z-Wave, but their literature is focused on the wifi/Nexia angle.   I have an OmniStat but would like to leave this alone for a while on account of warranty.

If am Omnistat2 can control your HVAC, that is the route I would go.  Then the Omni programming, and smarphone programs like SnapLink can control things and no monthly charge.  Where the problem starts when you get variable speed fans, variable speed compressors, and use Trane's zoning system, and your stuck because an OmniStat can't control those.  Its a great system, but only special Trane thermostats can control it.  In my last house I used a Trane 2-speed compressor and tied that into a Honeywell zone controller. Then hooked OmniStats to each of the zones.  The Honeywell zone controller doesn't mate perfectly to the Trane variable speed fan, but it was good enough.  If you get the high-end Trane zoned variable speed compressor, there is only one thermostat it can use, theirs.
