Wait ... there's another way to learn ?  I wish someone told me that a long time ago ! Not that I would have listened ;)

Useful thing for that eyes, the smart phone camera's can do wonderful zoom and make even the smaller (not  smallest) smt lettering visible. Otherwise it's drug store 8 - 15x glasses and very bright lights (LEDs are great for this).

Plenty of folks here are playing with everything from arduino like devices, Pi's and what not to build their own (hardware and software).

Here dad brought me to an amateur radio club meeting (way before I could drive) in the 1960's near where we lived.

The attached pictures are of two radios that were given to me by some older club members.

Well they were all older than me at the time.  I got bitten by the Ham radio bug then.  From here built a couple of radios (well one was a just a code only 50 watt transmitter).

I recall building a radio shack under the front porch section in the basement.

The ceiling was short but worked for me at the time.

Today (this morning) playing with a multiple frequency (bands) radio receiver that is about 1.5" X 8" with 5 antenna inputs, serial intelligent outputs and two power inputs.  Amazing technology.  I have gone to modifying it a bit such that it uses one power input.

I also use the phone camera to see things that are hidden from my view. Recently I needed to see the label on the electric fan motor in my oil burner and the label was on the far side of the motor where I couldn't get my head in to see at all. I just reached around back with the phone and snapped a shot and got what I needed.
