Favorite KODI theme is Back Row

Guru
Here lost the Back Row theme in updating KODI.  It is my favorite theme.

Default Confluence theme:

Popular Aeon Flux theme:

Note versions of KODI are:

13 "Gotham" (13.0, 13.1, 13.2)    May 2014 (original)
14 "Helix" (14.0, 14.1, 14.2)    December 2014 (original)
15 "Isengard" (15.0, 15.1, 15.2)    July 2015 (original)
16 "Jarvis" (16.0, 16.1)    February 2016 (original)
17 "Krypton" (17.0)     February 2017

Default installation doesn't work anymore.  Found out that the author is in the middle of a move and still working on it.

Here just went to the source posted by author to get it.  The SVN directory includes older and new versions of the Kodi Back Row Theme

To get it just do the following:

wget -e robots=off --mirror -pc --convert-links -P /home/kodi/.kodi/addons/skin.back-row hxxps://svn.code.sf.net/p/xboxmediacenter/code/Back-Row/Jarvis/skin.back-row/

Where xx is tt.

It'll take a few minutes (30 minutes?) to get all of the versions of the Kodi Back Row theme.

Then just copy the appropriate theme to your .KODI directory.

cd /home/kodi/.kodi/addons
cp skin.backrow -a /home/kodi/.kodi/addons/skin.backrow

ls skin*

skin.aeon.nox.5
skin.back-row
skin.re-touched

Just a copy of the skin.back-row them to the addons directory brought it back as a choice.

Pete:

I installed Kodi but had a major problem with it. When I added a pay site (HBOGO for example) I was required to enter the setup info including username/password in Kodi menus. This was no problem but then after adding a few sites I found that when I cleaned my pc up with CCleaner app and cleaned the browser history and other data I lost all of the sign-in info from Kodi.

My problem is that I clean my cookies and things often and don't want to add usernames and passwords to all my sites each time I do. Do you know a way around this?

Mike.

Yes here do keep a few passwords configured in Kodi.  Really it is just AOD and YouTube and some music sites. All of the other sites or plugins I do not use passwords for.

I use that CCleaner application on the Windows tabletop touchscreens although I do not surf the Internet with them.

Here KODI runs on a dedicated Ubuntu mini computer (AOpen Digital Engine) next to the television.  It only runs KODI and boots up to KODI in Ubuntu.  Manage the updates on the box via Webmin and SSH.  Cheapo refurbished box for $35 a few years back that I purchased from an advertising company.  They all did come with embedded windows and I changed them all to embedded Ubuntu KODI.  Made them KODI appliances.  Very basic with an Intel Core Duo and 2-4 Gb of RAM on a laptop sort of mini motherboard with a standard laptop power supply (19VDC).  Installed OS via USB stick, keyboard and mouse.

Noticed too that the newest Version of KODI called Kyrpton also has same web interface as LCD TV GUI.

Kodi repositories have a back up utility that will manually back up or auto back up your KODI db's to same computer or NAS.  It is just that .KODI directory.  I have also created on mySQL DB for all of the KODI boxes where as when they boot they attach themselves to a common DB such that all of the KODI boxes are in sync.

KODI: Add-On: Backup

I do not run KODI today on my tablets or laptops except do have it installed on my W10 mini desktop computer; but do not really utilize it.

So to answer your question; there is no way around using CCleaner cleaning up your cache, registry et al other than installing the KODI backup utility and manually back up or automatically back up your KODI stuff before running CCleaner.  Here my base Ubuntu KODI is never changed.  I have settled on a few plugins (gets overwhelming) and just use those all of the time.

One favorite is the Seinfield plugin.  We watch it every night.  it is only three shorts of his jokes going back to the 1980's (Merv Griffin) and can be 30 seconds to a couple of minutes long.

I've been using Pulse Lite. It's built based on using the Eminence skin, with numerous add-ons pre-loaded; opposed to Eminence that has nothing loaded.

I like the layout and the build is intended to be lightweight and allow low-powered devices to run smoothly. I've been doing builds on the Amazon FireTV platform. Really like having the Amazon back-end for all their content, as well as it's native apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, and so on. Not to forget... it also has Alexa built into the remote  :D

I think that installing kodi to an ubuntu VM will solve my problem of loosing log in info. I'll just use the ubuntu for kodi and nothing else. I just hope that cleaning the windows host system doesn't erase the kodi data for the vm.

Mike.

I've been using Transparency! for years and love the artwork and layout. I have it working really well with my Fire TVs and I've edited some of the .xml files for the skin so no one can modify anything at all, such as views, refreshing data and artwork, etc. I've also modified some of the home screen menu items to use smart lists and folder view rather than library, but still show library data.

I just tried loading kodi to windows 7 and I could only get the old 32bit version to install. Is that right?

Here have only run the 32 bit version of Kodi on Windows 10 so I do not know.

I ran it on a PipoX7 and it did well.  The PiPoX7 also runs Ubuntu and Kodi did well in Ubuntu too.

The PipoX7 also runs Android.

Officially Kodi is posted in the Microsoft store as a 32bit application.

Here many years ago switched over from Microsoft Media center to XBMC (windows) because it worked better for me.

Rest of KODI boxes here runs on Ubuntu 64bit.  I do not like Android; but that is me.

Just switched over a local friend here who was using a wireless stick and didn't like too much to a dedicated mini pc running Ubuntu 64 bit.  I bought him one of those Xi5A's refurb jobs for $60.  Here purchased two of them.  Run a bit warm but does well with Kodi.  One is running Homeseer Lite and one is running Kodi.  I like the look of the AOpen digital engines better than the Xi5A.

I know you are not asking but just posting here what I use for KODI today.

The newer version that I loaded in ubuntu is so much nicer! After using the ubuntu kodi app I don't even like to use the 32bit windows version.

I installed kodi in a VM/ubuntu on my win10 64bit laptop and it's a very nice, easy to use app. I installed 32bit in windows 7 64bit  machine that is connected to 2 tv sets and I don't much like the app. I found it difficult to do things that were very simple to do in the unix version.

Mike.

Yeah here I am not used to the default Kodi V.17 Krypton theme yet/

Relating to remote control here use only the older style Microsoft media center remote controls.  Tried others but not really too impressed.

You can also use a tablet running whatever to remote control Kodi via the browser interface.

Today you can also remote control your TV via the HDMI port connection via CEC via KODI.

BTW you can also run KODI on the RPi2-3 except that it is only 32 bit.

Ever use Plex?   I liked that all the heavy lifting is centralized on one box and you can use lighter clients for streaming from that box.  I played around with Kodi for a while, but since my Tivo Roamio Pro and Tivo Mini's all have built in Plex clients, that helped drive my decision.

No Plex, I'm a newbie to this kind of software. I have both windows kodi and ubuntu kodi on my laptop so I'll play with both until I'm familiar with them.

You should give Krypton a chance. I tried the Krypton first and found it intuitive and easy to use. I was disappointed when I later tried the older windows 32bit version

This is interesting, I'll look into it.
