Sure. The full-on home automation controllers are the Leviton/HAI OMNIs and the ELK. The Leviton Omni's come in a few different levels depending on how big your system can get. If you definitely have a small house with limited funds then one of the smaller controllers would work, but most people generally go for the highest version which is the Omni Pro II. The price differences aren't that great, so sometimes its better to overshoot than to start small and outgrow it.
On the Elk side there is the M1 Gold which is pretty capable.
As for a step below, there are the security panels with some home automation features. Home automation was more of an afterthought to these, but if you have a limited budget they might work for you. Maybe the Honeywell Vista 21IP would be a place to start.
So these panels range from maybe $200 to about $1300 but that is JUST for the controller. You will need console(s) more sensors, wireless then also some home automation switches.
My advice is to but the best controller you can, then just add pieces over time. You can add home automation later and focus on security first. But don't skimp in the controller, because that is the ultimate limiting factor in many ways.
