what's the benefit of smart lock HA integration?

hi all,
I'd like to get a smart lock / deadbolt for a new front door, as part of a remodel, and am also thinking that I may add some form of Home Control/Automatiomn this year as well. Is there a benefit to picking a lock that can integrate to an overall Home automation system, such as Elk, omni pro, or dare I say homekit..or should I just pick the smart lock I like best.

my top choices are

I use the logic of my OmniPro to control locking/unlocking my door.  Many of the locks have the ability to auto re-lock after a certain time, but this tends to throw the bolt while the door is still open and then you get a nice ding in the door jamb when someone swings the door shut while the bolt is out.  Instead, mine is set to never auto re-lock and I let the OmniPro handle that.  With code in the OPII, when it detects the door closed, it then starts a 60 second timer and will relock after 60 seconds if the door is still closed.  The timer resets if the door is opened during that 60 seconds.  This allows someone to go in or out again if they forgot something and they don't have to mess with unlocking again.  It works great for me as my kids and wife always forgot to lock the door.  It also makes it easy to lock/unlock the door remotely for people via my OPII control app.

thanks guys, possibly putting the cart before the horse here, so I've taken a step back and asked a new more general question

For one thing, I get email notifications of who unlocks a door and when (each family member has their own pin.)  Locking is just a date / time stamp of which door was locked.  Also sends the battery level of the lock.

There are any number of ways of looking at automation, lock triggers thing(s) / actions, something triggers the lock, etc.  Each use case can be generalized, e.g. it happens for everyone or you can have specific events like kid gets home, notify parents, turn on a light if it's after sunset (or if you have ambient light sensors basis of light level it registers.)  Something like having a "going to bed" automation routine that notifies you if a door is unlocked (or just locks it regardless) when routine is triggered.  A house status display that indicates doors locked/unlocked, window status, etc, are but a few possibilities.
