Any Dynamic DNS deals out there

Reviewing my contract which I renew every two years with No-IP dot com.  (over 10 years now).

I see their rates have gone up 50% just about every years.  My last renewal was around $30 for two years.

Now seeing that it is twice the price for the next two years?

Any better deals out there (2-3 year renewal works fine for me)?

I've always used Dynu.  https://www.dynu.com/
Their basic service is free.

I know No-IP has a free as well (I believe) but don't they make you renew it every month?  It was a pain.

Buy a Windows Home Server and they give you a free domain name
Yeah, I had one, and great until Microsoft discontinued it in 2012. On the Mac, Apple still supports theirs called Apple OS X Server. However, no free domain name.

No-IP free just needs a tickle.  That said been using no-ip now for over 10 years.

Opened up a polite ticket with No-IP dot com and they reduced the price for my renewal.

Last time a phone call did it.

My domain name (since the 1990s) today is managed by go daddy.

Doesn't really matter if MS has anything to do with it anymore. The domain name still works and for the price, can't be beat! Plus, the server itself still works just fine too.

Thank you KLC.

Did sign up for 2 more years with no ip dot com (discounted)

Giving it a try.

afraid.org paid services are a bit more than the no ip dot com current current pricelist.

Just a quick note here relating to updating my domain registration.

Updated Domain registration today.  For whatever reason I had added one email address to the base of email.

The website registration was difficult to deal with so I called customer service.  Excellent customer service.

Found out that my original domain registration included free email.  CS guy stated that Email had gone up much this year.

I was paying for 5 years of email and domain registration in one invoice.

That said I was able to renew Domain name for 5 years with free email (that was grandfathered in from original registration some 20 years ago) at same price as 5 years ago.

I would just make sure that if you want to use your dynamic dns provider with your home router (i.e. automatically update the IP via the router hardware and not a PC), that the provider is compatible with the router's firmware.

Thank you BSR.

Yes here utilize a PFSense firewall which has a widget for multiple Dynamic DNS services.

Relating to DNS in general the PFSense box does it own encrypted DNS stuff out of the box.

No matter what the client PC is set to the PFSense firewall takes the DNS request through it's services.

The domain name registration is renewed every 5 years and since the beginning has included free email.

So for 5 years of service it cost around $40 USD which comes out to $8 a year for domain name and email which I think is a good deal.

The customer service guy guided my navigation through the account information which I couldn't deal with because of all of the side pop up advertisements.
