New ELK M1G install in Colombia C1M1 or M1XEP

Greetings,

Given the rather shaky IP (fibre) connections we have here, the C1M1 sounds like the perfect solution to connect my M1G to the alarm company - IP with 3G backup...

Question is, will this thing work outside the US and with my local SIM chip?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance. You all have been a wealth of information!

Cheers.

There is a third option, you can use the telephone copper wires (POTS) if you have them.

In my mind the GSM/C1M1 is most reliable followed by POTS and then ISP.  The POTS is very reliable but the wire can be cut and ISP's go offline now and then so the GSM is my vote if you're OK with paying the monthly fee.

Also consider that the Elk can make phone calls to you using POTS so you may want to hook it up in addition to an XEP or C1M1.

An Iphone or android phone can work outside of the US so i don't see why the SIM in the C1M1 wouldn't do the same. I would contact my carrier to learn about roaming charges etc.I found this from ATT with a quick search:
