Lowes Iris platform shutting down

Sorry if this is a repost, but didn't see it in the search.

Looks like Lowes is killing their Iris platform.  Not very familiar with it, but I had seen their large sections of HA equipment prominently displayed at the front of their stores.  I'm very anti-cloud, so this won't affect me.  Seen way too many products have this same result.

Anyway, looks like Lowes is trying to somewhat soften the blow and is buying back some things.

Maybe they will do us a favor and have a close out sale on all IRIS accessories.

Those GE/Jasco Zwave switch’s and plugs work well with HomeSeer or any other HA system using Zwave

I found that the Iris ZigBee modules were usable with SmartThings.

I do worry that SmartThings will one day go away (all things do) so I am working on getting local control  for ZigBee and ZWave. All the logic to control the devices is local (Custom Node-Red flows). But the driver part is what I use SmartThings for (and an MQTT module to allow me to send the commands to the device).

I like the ESP8266 based stuff a bit better as it's all local.

If you're going to abandon a product, kudos to Iris for the approach they've taken:
  • advanced notice
  • redemption program
  • open-source the code

I'm probably going to try the Hubitat soon... I don't have a ton of Z-Wave, but what I do have is locks and water sensors - two mission critical things to me that I don't want accessible from the outside... and I'm starting a RRa2 install, which it also supports.  I won't run my house off the cloud.  I did briefly try a Vera and I owe it more time, but so far, I've been underwhelmed by it.  I unplugged it when I needed its LAN port and haven't even bothered to plug it back in...
