I'm looking to design and install my own home security system. I have a house and two outbuilding and would like a system something like
Control unit (one to cover 3 or 4 zones in the 3 buildings)
Battery backup
Radio (cellphone) link to the outside world (possibly as a backup in case landlines...

Thanks, I'll take a look at the GE systems. When I build my next (retirement) home I will include an ELK M1G type system, and lots of automation for the times when I can't move around and do things for myself :-)
Well, I'm still musing over my alarm system. After all the reviews on here I thought that M1G was the way to go, but now I'm not so sure. My procrastination is due to my meagre needs - I don't want / need home automation or video surveilance.
So, my situation / need is basically

Thanks for the input thus far. Perhaps burying conduit will be less trouble than looking after the wireless PIRs in the long run. An 'ideal' system or systems is going to be too expensive I fear - I get the impression that thisis one of those projects where you could spend almost forever (CCTV etc)
