    Power saving strategy

I don't see that annoyance as a critical issue. The problem will only occur during development/debug so losing the config is not a huge problem. Just be sure to document the feature well, warn of the side effects, and make the default power management state disabled.   /tom

    Current WebControl8 hdw/sw kudos

Wanted to mention I bought a replacement WC8 to upgrade the one I used for our greenhouse project circa mid 2012  and I like the changes to hdw and software.   1) SMPS means I can use 12V rather then 9V supply and run the humidity exhaust fan at full speed. 2) Heartbeat signal - I cheated and...

WC32: is there a variable containing IP address obtained by DHCP?

An ugly brute force approach is to statically assign the address, and embed that knowledge info in your code.   Personally I statically assign the address of all the WebControl devices on our LAN so that don't move around.   /tom

WC 32 well pump programming question

Couple of thoughts on your project. Depending on where you live outdoor watering may come into play. That will make it difficult to detect leaks by measuring pump on time. Be interesting to run an experiment to see if pump continues to cycle when watering and how long it stays on.  Small leaks...

    wc32 output problem

I assume you want the switch to force the output on, regardless of the output state of the WC. That is an "OR" function, rather then messing with diodes why not just use a two input OR gate or depending on logic levels a NOR? A 14 pin package gives you 4 gates, enough for 4 outputs. For several...

    multiple connection

Still not sure what you are trying to do. Please spend a few more words on your question. Are you talking about connected TO92 case 18B20 temperature sensors directly to a cable? If you don't want to solder use screw or spring clip terminal blocks. If you are talking about premade temperature...

    Email issues

Were the WC boards sending email correctly up until you shut them down to change the sensors? The reason I'm asking is because WC8 does not do SSL and most ISPs require email authentication to reduce spam. Could the root cause be your ISP has changed email policy. This is the most likely reason...

    Power saving strategy

A lot depends on if there is anything else that needs to be done during the hour. If not then an external timer would work well. In addition to the timer function your hardware can monitor important external stimuli and control power to the WebControl. Have the WC force power on in case the...

    WC8 questions

You can't directly reboot the WC8 but if you hit Network update button the board reboots. You don't have to make any changes. I've used that method multiple times. One thing it does not do is power cycle the 1-wire bus so if it is in a weird state still need to cycle power. I'm using older...

Understanding output control at boot time.

If I remember correctly from my testing you also need to take into account output state before the WebControl code executes. I assume uP I/O is programmable as input or output and defaults to input at power up. So it floats high until WC code configures it as an output and set WC configured...

    Temp Sensor questions

Is the pump on or off? Is OP4 1 or 0? Does the state of OP4 change with temperature? If the pump is off when it should be on what is the status of OP4? Could be the code is working correctly but the hardware is not able to control the pump. 22C is reported as 220 so should go to pump_on...

New WebControl 8 board tolerates 70C use 5-40VDC supply

From this thread it appears there are new connectors and jumpers. Be nice to have pretty pictures of the new PCB and an updated manual even though the FW has not changed. /tom

New WebControl 8 board tolerates 70C use 5-40VDC supply

Do you know when an updated user manual will be available? May want to make some other updates to the CAI website, there are at least two different WebControl pages that lead to different versions of the documentation. Clicking on the Manual link pops an old 2011 PDF user manual, click on...

New WebControl 8 board tolerates 70C use 5-40VDC supply

That's great news, a great improvement for the WC8. Are there any new features other the the power supply improvement? /tom

    wc8 ssr reset

Thanks for the heads up. I assume any electronics I purchase on eBay is counterfeit. I was actually surprised the Fotek SSRs I have appear to be genuine, or at least better fakes. /tom

    wc8 ssr reset

I use the same relays and have not had any problems controlling them with WC. I have noticed that like a lot of other low cost Chinese devices the specs are not firmly adhered too. They need more then 3V to turn on reliability. I drive mine from 9V and an open collector 7407 and have not had...

Can Cai Webcontrol be used for an automation timer

Cool - I was not aware of that kind of smart timer. I'll have to remember that this Christmas. To the OP as much as I like using WebControl for automation projects I think LarryILix's suggestion is a better solution unless you want to be able control the lights from a web interface. In that...

    Adding On-Board Prototype Area

While I'm not opposed to having a prototype area, all of my projects so far require a significant amount of space for unique interface components. I just take it as a given I need to allocated space in the chassis for a kludge board to load whatever special stuff I need. Plus, being an old fart...

    Line Drivers for 1-Wire bus

We have had several discussions about folks having problems driving long 1-wire buses or noisy environments. While I have not had a problem with my designs thought this Ideas for Design in the April 2015 print Electronics Design Magazine might be helpful. It uses half of a NXP PCA9600 I2C...

    Error searching support

How do you propose this would work? Since the sensors share a common data line, depending on bad sensor behavior, one sensor could bring down the entire bus. For systems with short cable lengths I include DIP switch to isolated each 18B20 - not so much for troubleshooting but to help associate...
