Will this work - Elk Siren Voice

I have three Elk speakers dedicated to M1 announcements, separate from my AV system, and am very happy with the setup. The HA geek in me really wanted to re-use my existing in-ceiling speakers for announcements, but in the end I just found it more straightforward to keep the systems separate.

    Announcement options

I haven't done this myself yet, but I would think you could split the PC output to each zone's receiver and use the local receiver in each zone for AM/FM. Then you could split speaker-level outputs from the announcements to each zone and use an automatic speaker-level switcher to switch between...

    Announcement speakers

Ah, pretty cool, I missed that when I skimmed thru the first time. Still, it doesn't look like they've integrated this into an all-in-one single-gang speaker. What I'd love to see is a speaker form-factor like the Micro in-wall system with an integrated powerline receiver.

Someone should combine this with some kind of powerline solution like this so that it can connect directly to existing AC wiring in any existing switch or outlet box.

[CES] 2007 Exclusive Update - MICROSOFT

One of the other big announcements from MSFT was their Windows Home Server. In addition to providing features like automated backups, journaling, and remote access, it will be able to run third-party apps that run on Windows Server. The GM for this product line has said that he sees home...

    Speaking of wireless devices...

I've always wondered why something like this didn't already exist: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12760_7-96730...l?tag=cnetfd.mt This would be great for truly wireless devices like WiFi cameras and RF sensors.

    Elk and UPB

Thanks to Elk for identifying and fixing the problem so quickly. Now back to the original topic... will there be a fix to let the Elk know the status of UPB devices that are updated through external links? Or are there any other workarounds besides the ones that frankdr mentioned: I don't...

    MCE HTPC w/Media Server

You need about 20 Mbps for HDTV although it can be compressed down to about 9 Mbps. But if you're planning on distributing HD content from a Vista PC with an OCUR tuner you should be aware that you will only be allowed to distribute that content to an Xbox 360, not to other PCs.

INSTEON Has 40% Market Share says West

Yes, in fact it sounds like a lot of people here have bought the same device 3 or 4 times just to get one that works. ;)

    Elk and UPB

electron - no, it doesn't work the other way around. steve - thanks, it looks like we are seeing the same behavior, which is that activating link #X will also activate link #(X-64). This reduces the number of usable links to 64, which I can see easily exhausting pretty quickly.

    Anyone used a GadSpot DVR?

Yes, I am getting some false triggers although I haven't had the time to fully tweak the motion settings. For my needs this is fine since it just triggers an extra minute of recording but these are easy enough to skip over with up to 32x rew/ff. I have noticed a few small issues with the DVR...

    Elk and UPB

I've just recently integrated my Elk with my UPB system and realized that I'm confused about how to configure UPB links to work with the Elk. The M1XSP manual says that the Elk supports 192 individual addresses and 64 links. So I've setup my links in UPStart such that links 1-64 are scenes that...

    Elk and UPB

I found the UPB specs at http://www.pcslighting.com/downloads/upb/descriptionv1.2.pdf which does show the "Report State" command as hex value 0x30, but it is beyond me how to form a complete UPB packet with the correct control words, checksums, etc, much less how to send this directly from the...

    Elk and UPB

Dean, I agree, and I am finding myself heading in that same direction. That's why I was wondering if the Elk can send a serial command directly to the UPB PIM to force a status update. bfisher suggests this is possible with HomeVision but I don't know about the Elk. If this is a standard UPB...

Is there a way to issue a UPB status request directly from the Elk? I don't see anything in ElkRP unless there is a text command that can be sent directly to the serial port?

The user's manual has some screenshots and a good overview of the functions: http://www.gadspot.com/download/GS760/Engl...Manual_V1.0.pdf The motion detection works well for me. You can use either an external trigger or the internal video-based motion detection. In addition to triggering a...

P.S. It looks like the GS760 model has been replaced by the model GS1800. I can't tell what the difference is between the two models except that the GS1800 is $80 more (but on sale for just $40 more).
