What is wrong with ELK Products inc.?

All product development is judged on a cost to develop against economic payback. So far alternate operating systems do not pass the test. Jason Calloway has written a very nice Apple iPhone app to control the Elk M1. Unfortunately, there are no Apple programmers at Elk.

    Elk keypad wiring question

The reason Elk does not recommend using the 4 pin slide on J connectors on the M1 board is strickly for realibility. I have used them for years with no problems, but keep in mind that the wire is not crimped down the same as under the terminal strips. Short runs in the control box work good...

    Elk Voices Repeating on Disarm

When the M1 is disarmed, there is a short period of time in which the status becomes unsecure to allow the system to check all the zones to make them secure if the zone is secure. The Rule is finding the zone not secure during that short period of time. Try delaying after disarming and then...

    Elk M1 strange ac/battery problem

Under Menu 2 you can do a battery load test for 30 seconds and the keypad will display the battery voltage. The other possible cause is that the PTC fuse in the transformer has shut down due to overcurrent or heat. Allow the transformer to cool down for a while which will restore the PTC...

Elk rule to arm/disarm area with function key

You need to add a timer that will not allow the next Rule to fire immediately. When the first Rule fires, it causes the second Rule to fire so it will disarm then arm immediately. WHENEVER KEY F4 ON ANY KEYPAD ACTIVATES AND (AREA 2) ARMED STATE = ARMED THEN DISARM AREA(S) 2 IMMEDIATELY...

    Elk M1 M1KPNAV Fire Trouble

Any zone can be a four wire fire zone, so you have more options for zoning individual smoke detectors. A 2200 EOL resistor will probably give a fire trouble. The smokes should be wired in series, so start removing the smokes from their base until you find the one with the EOL resistor installed.

You can put DC directly into the AC input terminals on the M1. The voltage regulator is set for 13.9 volts so you need at least 4 volts above that voltage to properly recharge a sealed lead acid battery. Remember you have a 1.2 volt drop across the AC bridge rectifier and need around 3 volts...
