The Digimerge DH200 series DVRs are very good also. Easy to set up and use, excellent quality also. They have their own DDNS service and they are compatible with the iPhone, Blackberry and Windows mobile.
I would always recommend a patch panel for reliability, neatness, and troubleshooting.
If you are a reasonably "handy" person there is no reason you can't do it yourself, just get a good quality punchdown tool.
I use a 3" piece of 1/2" conduit and a strap. Simply mount the conduit piece on the side of the stud with the strap and have it stick out from the stud about the width of the wallboard you are using. Then pull a length of wire out through the conduit. I have never had a sheetrock guy miss it...
Have you spoken with the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in the community where you are building? If not, before going any further I would suggest you contact them and find out what their requirements are for fire protection for your area and type of construction. Each AHJ can...
I also voted "yes, anything goes..." and I agree with jrfuda and opie that there are a lot of interesting topics whether hi-tech or no-tech that will appeal to the members of this site. Just stay away from politics and sustainability issues and stick with the hands on.
I am not aware of a 2 wire glass break since you generally need 2 wires for the zone and 2 wires for the power. Are you close enough to the motion to grab power from there?
The sensor that you have the link to is a Sentrol ShatterPro II. I have used these many times on various installs and...
I really like the Digital Watchdog Star-Light series of cameras. They are certainly not in the low price category but the high quality of the video and construction (5 year warranty) make them worth it IMHO. They are true day night, and have both bullet and dome models including some with IR...
Outdoor cameras that work well with the cold weather that we get in Minnesota and Wisconsin can be a tricky thing!
I have used box cameras with heated environmental enclosures many times and they general work fine in any temperature. A negative is that they usually are big and clunky looking...
I don't think that I have ever seen anything that would be feasible in a residential situation to measure oxygen concentrations. I think you would be better off sticking to the tried and true method of using a good quality CO detector and if you had specific concerns there are also sensors for...
When you say that the Vitek EH8 supports windows Mobile and iPhone, does it have a separate app for these platforms or does it just use the browser that's available on these smartphones?
You should be fine, most dome cameras I have seen have screw holes that fit a single gang box. Of course, having said that several people will let me know which cameras don't! LOL!
It really depends on the style of camera how it is mounted but generally a single gang box works fine whether you end up using a bullet or dome style camera.
I am not sure I would bother putting in coax just in case you decide to go analog. It is simple enough to use baluns on both ends with...
D1 resolution is important when you need to be able to ID a stranger and also if you want to provide evidence to the police and the court system for prosecution, Most of these DVR's will record in CIF resolution which is 352 X 240. D1 resolution is 704 X 460 so you can see that D1 gives you a...
I would agree with rfdesq, the press to fit round contacts are best when combined with a rare earth magnet on a sliding glass door. If budget and aesthetics allow I would recommend a glass break detector in the area also.
