That is not fair! I do not want to go at this alone. Were you not going to get the Panasonic BB-HCM331A if I remember correctly. Go get it!
Anyone out there using the Panasonic BB-HCM331A?
I never really considered wireless. I have a wireless phone system and a 802.11b/g network and I have heard that there are issues with wireless cameras. I figure if I have to run a power cable, I might as well run the video cable.
I have seen dummy cameras on the Internet really cheap for just that purpose.
Outside cameras can withstand temperatures down to about -5F. If moisture gets into the camera and freezes - good bye camera. Even if you live in an area where the temperature never goes below freezing, moisture can...
The only way I am going to settle the issue of an IP PTZ camera vs. a fixed camera with DVR card is to get both and experiment. So here I go.
The IP PTZ camera will be the Panasonic BB-HCM331A. The delivered cost from newegg.com is $565. This Panasonic seems to be the best value for the buck...
Pelco D Protocol- Compatible with all Geovision Cards. This mini dome Allows you to Pan 320°, Tilt 90°, and Digital Zoom up to 3X. Uses common RS485 signal.
It does not specifically say IP - I guess it is not a network camera. Could this be a special interface?
Sony Pan/Tilt Outdoor
I found this Sony outdoor pan/tilt for $410 (needs $55 outdoor mount - total cost $465) - has 2.5-6mm vari-focal lens, 1/3" CCD. No LEDs so I wonder how it will do in low light. Specs - Low Lux Sensitivity 1.0 Lux / F 2.0. Anyone know the low light specs on the Panasonic...
I assume that a network IP camera like the Panasonic BB-HCM331A needs a standard Ethernet RJ45 cable (Cat 5 or Cat 6) as well as a pair of 18 AWG power cables. Are there any combo cables available?
Son of a gun! I missed that. I will have to check that but I certainly would not pay $590 for a network camera that does not pan/tilt. The Panasonic BB-HCM331A is looking better and better.
RG59/Power combo
How about a RG59 cable and a pair of 18AWG power cables in a combo cable to run about 100 feet to a camera. I will probably have 3 cameras eventually so the 500-foot roll seems to be a good price.
Are there any RG6 / pair 18 AWG combo rolls? I like having a neat single cable to...
Sony IP camera 3.6mm lens
Sony IP camera 3.6-9mm vari-focal lens
The 3.6mm fixed lens is $590, the 3.6-9mm vari-focal lens is $770. Both from CCTVSpeciality. Any comments on these 2 IP cameras as alternatives to the Panasonic BB-HCK331A. The Sony's have LEDs for night images - the Panasonic...
OK. The wind has shifted. I am back looking at IP cameras. Besides the Panasonic BB-HCM331A, I am looking at the following Sony from CCTVSpeciality Sony IP camera The total specs are missing so I may call them on Monday. It has a 3.6mm lens and 2-way audio.
Do IP cameras come with a fixed IP...
That card is 60fps per card so 4 cameras would be running at 15fps each. Max resolution is 352x288.
The camera I am looking at has a resolution of 512x492. The GeoVision GV-800-4 has a max resolution of 640x480. The GV-800 is $379 and the above card is only $99 but I am willing to pay the...
I am thinking that 4 wide-angle fixed cameras with real-time 30fps images will be perfect. I am still looking at the GeoVision software and things are looking better and better. Since I have an Intel P4 PC available, I might just take a chance on 1 camera and the DVR card to get started. The P4...
Still not convinced about IP cameras. I still like the idea of 4 real-time 30fps images without having to pan.
If I use an RG6 cable (18 AWG) for the video, what cables should I use for the power feeds? - about 50 to 100 feet to each camera.
I have never used the SmartHome cables. I just happened to see them when I was looking at cameras - in fact I have yet to run a cable to a camera. I am close to getting a camera (or 2 or 4) and it is good to know about choosing a cable. I would really hate to have a high definition camera image...
I have not given up on the GeoVision yet. I do have 2 Intel PCs available to run the cameras - a 2.8 P4 with an Intel D865GLC motherboard (can't get more Intel than that) and a Dell 3.06 P4 (I assume standard Intel chips). The GeoVision software (which comes with the DVD card) seems to be very...
