Another ZWave switch bites the dust!

I am now down to 4 HomePro ZWave switches from an original 8 as every time a bulb blows out it takes the switch with it. A 60-watt bulb in my family room ceiling light blew and the switch (a dimmer) went with it. These HomePro ZWave switches go back to last summer so I assume thery are no...

    DVR Camera experiment gone bad

Well the GeoVision GV-650 DVR card is on its way back. I could not get the GeoVision web server to work correctly. I called GeoVision tech support but the tech could not resolve the problem and had to push the problem up the tech ladder. Never heard back. My emails to GeoVison went unanswered...

    Panasonic BB-HCM331A Camera Power Cord

I just purchased the Panasonic BB-HCM331A network camera. Great camera - except in low light. My problem - the DC 12-volt power supply has about a 30' cord. I need to mount the camera about 75' from a power source. I purchased a 100' power extension cable. Guess what - the Panasonic has a...

DVR card vs. Network camera - view images

I spent the weekend experimenting with a Panasonic pan/tilt/zoom network camera and a fixed day/night (infrared) camera with DVR card. What an experience! Hardware - fixed Sony 1/3" CCD infrared camera (23 LEDs) from CCTVSpeciality.com (product SPE-218) and the GeoVision GC-650 DVR card with...

SoundBridge R1000 vs. Slingbox vs. ?

I want to replace an old Toshiba laptop currently in the kitchen that is used to access audio CD collected stored in Windows Media Player on a PC in the family room. IP PTZ camera and fixed camera/DVR experiment

The only way I am going to settle the issue of an IP PTZ camera vs. a fixed camera with DVR card is to get both and experiment. So here I go. The IP PTZ camera will be the Panasonic BB-HCM331A. The delivered cost from newegg.com is $565. This Panasonic seems to be the best value for the buck...

Cable for a network IP camera

I assume that a network IP camera like the Panasonic BB-HCM331A needs a standard Ethernet RJ45 cable (Cat 5 or Cat 6) as well as a pair of 18 AWG power cables. Are there any combo cables available?

How do IP cameras work as to IP address?

OK. The wind has shifted. I am back looking at IP cameras. Besides the Panasonic BB-HCM331A, I am looking at the following Sony from CCTVSpeciality Sony IP camera The total specs are missing so I may call them on Monday. It has a 3.6mm lens and 2-way audio. Do IP cameras come with a fixed IP...

DVR Card - True real-time 30fps each of 4 channels

CCTV Speciality Just got off the phone talking to these guys. The GeoVision GV-800-4 ($379) will provide real-time 30fps viewing of 4 channels simultaneously. I need to investigate the GeoVision 8 software to see how it would fit into a HomeSeer or CQC total solution. At $379 the card is not...

Color Infrared Sony Super HAD CCD Day/Night Camera

I just discovered this site CCTV Speciality This seems like an unbelievable price $139.99 for this camera with a 3.6mm lens and 23 LEDs. I may have to call them tomorrow (Lake Worth, FL) to check this out. They also seem to have a DVR card capable of either 20fps per channel (at $155) or 30fps...

Outdoor camera and DVR card experiment

An inexpensive solution as a first time experiment with a security camera and DVR card. Camera - Swann Bulldog outdoor camera - 1/4 CCD, 420 TVL, 510x492, 12 LEDs - $77. Q-See 4-channel DVR PCI card - $80. So for $157 I can experiment with a camera and DVR card and see what happens. I can always...

Camera lens size and field of view

Most cameras seem to have a 4mm or 6mm lens with a field of view of about 61 degrees or so. Some cameras do not list the field of view. It seems that cameras with a 4mm lens might have different fields of view. Any way to correlate lens size with field of view?

    Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera

Anyone using a Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera? I guess the only way to get PTZ is to go with a network camera. I really like the idea of being able to PTZ so I guess I need to seriously investigate network cameras rather than fixed with a DVR card. Initially the high price turned me off. I was going...
