    RCS TR-40 "Thermostat not enabled"

Firmware was okay but I went ahead and updated it to 1.0.40. Still no dice. Then I went back to recheck jumpers and made the following 2 changes: 1. I had left the Baud jumpers like they were becasue the docs said they didn't matter. But I went ahead and set them like they were on the RCS...

    RCS TR-40 "Thermostat not enabled"

Did you get this resolved? I finally got around to hooking up my TR40 and I'm seeing the EXACT same thing. Thermostat works (have been using it manually for about a year) just fine. XSP is enrolled, etc. But I get the T01: Not enabled on my keypad.

Elk Zone Definition to use for HA motions

Finally getting to set up my motions. What zone definition do I need to use if I want to use the zone for HA purposes when the Elk is not armed. I'm thinking Aux1 but not sure how that will work when armed. Also, should a motion be NO or NC?

    Extend the garage door range..?

I had this problem with the opener in my shop and the garage door guy just gave me some of the low voltage cable they use for all their stuff and I spliced it onto the antenna and ran it 20' or so the front of the shop. Problem solved. Not sure what the electrical characteristics of that...

    Fire Trouble

I've got about half of the zones working now. One at a time seems to be the trick. Thanks for the input.

    Fire Trouble

Not yet. Just trying to get the zones to work individually to start with.

    Fire Trouble

So after a long day of troubleshooting my 4-wire smokes (10 of them) that were previously on just 2 zones, I decided to go ahead and run one per zone. I'm using an XIN on adress 2 so the zones in use are in the range of 17-32. I've got all the zones configured as type 10, with an EOL resistor...

    Two 485 Bus Questions

I have 5 zone expanders, 4 keypads, and 4 or 5 output expanders. So the DBH runs out of jacks real quick. Maybe I should just use the DBH for remote stuff like keypads and remote expanders and run everything else on a second leg off the panel?

    Two 485 Bus Questions

First Question: With a 568A RJ45 end on a DBH, which wires would I connect to 12V,A,B,Neg on a RS-485 terminal connection? Edit: Figured this one out. But still not the 2nd one. Second Question: What I have is 4 zone expanders all mounted together. I want to daisy chain the 4 of them and...

    Dumb Elk Rule Question

Great. Guess I was thinking too hard thinking I needed a rule.

    Dumb Elk Rule Question

How can I get the M1 to announce the name of a zone when violated. Without creating a rule per zone I mean. I want a rule/event/whatever so that when any zone is violated, it announces the name of the zone.

    Noise filter?

Thanks to all for the input. It sounds like what I should do is two things: 1. Isolate where the ground loop is by using one of the 2 prong adapters (temporarily) and then put in the appropriate ground loop isolator. It sounds like I probably need a component video one between the sat...

    Noise filter?

Already tried isolating noise by unplugging everything in the rack excep the sat receiver. It sounds like the ground loop issue is the more likely culprit. I'll try plugging the plasma in without ground to check that out. What exacty is a ground loop isolator and is this something I would do...

Tips or Suggestions for attic runs?

This is why I like the HVAC straps with big loops in them. You can pull cable pretty much all the way through the attic with no issues yet it's suspended high enough to avoid the HV stuff.

Need a long serial port for an ELK

If you're looking for an adapter like that, check out cablewholesale.com. I've never looked for that specific adapter but they have tons of stuff like that ... and for cheap. They've become my favorite place for cables, ends, adapters, etc.

    CQC and PowerHome SDM Versions

I solved this one myself and thought I'd post the solution in case somebody else runs into this. It turns out PowerHome puts the SDM in \Program Files\PowerHome\Smarthome\Device Manager and the SDM download puts it in \Program Files\Common Files\Smarthome\Device Manager. So on initial...

    CQC and PowerHome SDM Versions

So I downloaded an eval copy of CQC and am attempting to get Insteon going. THe first step per the CQC site is to install the SDM socket server. It in turn requried version 308 of the SDM. Now that I've installed that, PowerHome does not see the SDM and it doesn't seem to be working at all...

Tips or Suggestions for attic runs?

I used the strapping the HVAC guys use for ducts. I would create a good size loop then staple or nail it to the truss or rafter, leaving plenty of room to run wires through. Once all the wire was run, I went back through and cable tied the bundles together. BTW, I can't take credit for this...
