Mounting ELK in a Leviton enclosure

ok, I can deal with drilling  I had already done that for the wireless receiver and its antennas. Was just thinking it'd be easier to remove in the future if it was on a plate with the snap in connectors. May not be bad to have it more secure though I guess :)

Mounting ELK in a Leviton enclosure

OK, so it hadn't occured to me that the ELK main unit would not align with the standard mounting holes on an Leviton enclosure. What is the best way to moutn the ELK into the Leviton? Do I just use two of the C-0309 plates? Or is there a better plate. Also, as i start adding in my wireless...

Build own DB9-RS485 wire? Connect them to Elk

Thanks for the confirmation. I had seen that in the manul but since they were both RS-485 I figured i'd give it a shot :D Oh well, glad I already have the expander. Any info on if its possible (and how) to make your own DB9->RJ45 cable that will allow me to test out the control of the TR40...

    Functional difference between ELK keypads?

Besides the new flush keypad having two fewer function keys, and it not having space enough for a card reader in it, are there any other difference between the two? I order a kit with the newer style keypad but received the old one. I like the look of the new ones better but if there are...

Build own DB9-RS485 wire? Connect them to Elk

I've been trying to find info on this online but only seem to find $40 adapters for RS232-RS485. I have a new TR40 that is installed a working fine. My Elk isn't setup yet but I want to verify communication with the TR40. Are there wiring diagrams for a adapter to go from a DB9 serial port to...

ELK M1 & RCS TR-40 - How best to get ext temp?

Since I have CQC, ELK, and the TR40 I should be able to do this right? I could use CQC to read an ELK sensor to get the temp (Or a web service) and then set ext the temp on the TR40, right?

ELK M1 & RCS TR-40 - How best to get ext temp?

Seeing as both ELK and RCS make an exterior temp sensor, which one would I be better off going with? Should I get the ELK sensor and have it update the TR40 with the temp, or should I get the RCS version so that the TR40 is 'always' current and the ELK can poll it if/when necessary.

Oy, the Elk went NUTS this am

Sorry Dean, but that joke is a bit old now ;) At least you're only a couple years late though :P

    Feedback on new system

I think I'll probably add more motion detectors upstairs since I can easily wire those in myself. For downstairs, the number I put in is going to be dependent on the pricing I get from the installer for the wiring. Good point though. The more data/inputs I have, the more capable my system will be.

    Feedback on new system

I was going to put this in my post asking about wireless sensors and the ELK M1 but as it was veering off from the wireless topic I figured I'd create a new thread. With the suggestions from that thread, I'm now leaning towards having wired in sensors but having an installer come run the wiring...

How good are wireless sensors & ELK M1?

It hadn't even occured to me you could do that with putting the expander in a diff location. Is that just the M1XIN that I'd get? I have no worries really about wiring in some things upstairs such as motion detector and temp sensors. The main thing I'm worried about doing myself is the window &...

How good are wireless sensors & ELK M1?

Hmm, hadn't done the calcs on cost diff. From those estimates it's a min of $700 more for wired vs wireless just on the 1st floor. I guess the next step is to find a local contractor and get an estimate. Can someone recommend a good installer in the Seattle area?

Best way to get TV audio out a multi-room system?

I totally missed one thing when doing all the wiring and conduit for my new house - no easy way to run a wire from my downstairs TV to the audio dist wiring closet. I have a very long room that has the kitchen, nook, and family room. When cooking while watching TV I end up being about 30' from...

How good are wireless sensors & ELK M1?

I've been looking at this for a while and am now really on the verge of taking the leap into a home security system. The main thing holding me back at this point is the wiring part of it. I just moved into a new home and the idea of cutting & patching drywall is really not appealing to me. The...

Please tell me what you think of this new product

From a quick look at the site I don't think this will work quite 'universally'. In my case the door has trim around the inside of it which makes it set in a bit. In looking at the pics and info on the site it looks like it only works with door jams which are flush (for lack of a better word). I...

newbie Q : Does the RCS ZCV work w/1 zone?

After thinking about this more last night I decided to just get a single TR40. Although zones would be nice I don't think I can easily get to about 1/2 of the ducting for upstairs and would probably end up just using it as single zone in the end.

newbie Q : Does the RCS ZCV work w/1 zone?

I want to move to the ZCV2 with separate upstairs and downstairs zones but it will probably be a bit of time before I can wire in the 2nd TS40 upstairs. I didn't notice it in the docs, and I think its possible, but I just want to see if anyone here knows if you can run the ZCV2 with only 1 zone...
