I've been trying to find info on this online but only seem to find $40 adapters for RS232-RS485. I have a new TR40 that is installed a working fine. My Elk isn't setup yet but I want to verify communication with the TR40. Are there wiring diagrams for a adapter to go from a DB9 serial port to...

Since I have CQC, ELK, and the TR40 I should be able to do this right? I could use CQC to read an ELK sensor to get the temp (Or a web service) and then set ext the temp on the TR40, right?

Seeing as both ELK and RCS make an exterior temp sensor, which one would I be better off going with? Should I get the ELK sensor and have it update the TR40 with the temp, or should I get the RCS version so that the TR40 is 'always' current and the ELK can poll it if/when necessary.

I think I'll probably add more motion detectors upstairs since I can easily wire those in myself. For downstairs, the number I put in is going to be dependent on the pricing I get from the installer for the wiring. Good point though. The more data/inputs I have, the more capable my system will be.

After thinking about this more last night I decided to just get a single TR40. Although zones would be nice I don't think I can easily get to about 1/2 of the ducting for upstairs and would probably end up just using it as single zone in the end.
