New house, zero automation now, what dimmers for future automation

Im another one that recommends Lutron RadioRa2 and if I were getting another house, Id be placing another order for RadioRa2. The 6ND is the dimmer Id recommend for most usage with the 10ND for larger sets of lights like a kitchen or similar. Switches would be the 8ANS. 2ANF for fans. And RD...

Which vacuum cleaner helps against animal hair?

I agree with some of what Larry said but not all. I had a Panasonic vacuum that I thought was phenomenal and it really was at least until I bought a Dyson. I put a new bag in the Panasonic, cleaned the entire rug in the living room and family rooms and this is after shampooing the carpet a...

Which vacuum cleaner helps against animal hair?

Dyson ANIMAL...duh. :)   But seriously, the Dyson does do well and is fairly easy to change and doesn't clog the filters.  I had one of the original Dyson traditional upright vacuums and then bought a refurbed upright 2 years ago and I have liked them very much.  Intelligent design such as a U...

    Moen Flo Smart Water Valve

My bad RAL. I thought you were talking about the Moen digital valve control, which allows several zones (body sprayers, shower head, handheld sprayer) without having multiple wall controls...

    Moen Flo Smart Water Valve

Read reviews and when it works, people love it. Of course the flip side is it isn’t very reliable with either the valves or the WiFi/electronics. Looks cool but I want my plumbing to just work.

*** Bosch Blueline Gen 2 Tritech Motion giving false alarms

I was going to say the same with spiders causing multiple false alarms that have resulted in police rolls. I will now be adding 2 motions per zone to ensure a spider or bad motion detector cannot cause a false alarm, well at least greatly reduce the possibility.

    New Leviton devices at CES

I definitely wouldn’t use Zigbee or Zwave as the gold standard for reliability but you’re probably right that was their baseline. Like you say, RadioRa2 is at another level of reliability.

    New Leviton devices at CES

Regarding WiFi switches, I dont like this at all due to the number of devices already on a home network and the density of WiFi in condosor densely populated houses. I was thinking maybe you could run a separate complete network but density of other WiFi could interfere with that. I guess an...

    New Leviton devices at CES

Now setup a scene called Kitchen Lights or a phantom switch and include all of the kitchen lights on that. Then it will work as described.

Few general questions for struggling newbie

Only correction is you can use Sonos with distributed (or nice) audio speakers and amps using a number of Sonos Connects, one per zone/room. The Sonos Connects could be centrally located or distributed around the house such as at your main audio system. And then youd have the flebility to add...

Few general questions for struggling newbie

Here are some things I would ensure I’d include on my next house. * I have outdoor motion floodlights (RAB STL360HBW) on the corners with LED floodlights and they are bright and would make a thief think twice about messing with my house. I’d wire for these on each corner as well as middle...

    Hello from MS

Welcome. The HAI and Elk panels also do automation since they can control lights and similar devices with the right accessories. Some use the automation security panels in addition to CQC (or similar) keeping more mission critical items on the more robust security panel. While CQC can be...

    DSC Powerseries NEO HS32119CP01 kit

Just wanted to say the pro that installed my system used the keypad to set it up. Mentioned he could have used the software but is quick enough with the keypad that he prefers it to pulling out the laptop. Not sure if that is the real reasoning but there you go. He did have to login to...

    DSC Powerseries NEO HS32119CP01 kit

I had a DSC Neo installed at my business and haven’t had any issues. It is monitored by Alarm.com and I use the Alarm.com app on my phone to arm/disarm and adjust notifications. I don’t use any of the Zwave functionality but it is there if I need/want it. The only issue we’ve had is spiders...

False alarm by wired motion sensor

I had an alarm put in our business earlier this year and since part of it is warehouse space, we’ve had multiple false alarms due to spiders. I will be installing double the motion sensors to enable cross zoning, which will require two motion sensors in the same room to go off before alarming.

The End-ALL of Home Automation Systems?

And I have a fully paid subscription to CQC (CharmedQuark) automation software (and multiple computers to run it) but don't even use it.  I got tired of playing with my home automation and so the bulk of it now is Alexa controlling my Lutron RadioRa2 lighting and (rarely) my HarmonyHub.  And...

Thanks Ano.  "Cross zoning" seems to be exactly what I wanted.  Thank you!

    Motion Sensors in Parallel

I recently had an alarm go off at my business, complete with a police roll.  I could see on the camera that no one was in there but not soon enough to stop the police from being dispatched.  When I went in the next morning, it looks like a spider caused the motion sensor to trip.  I sprayed and...

    Automating a Large House

Not much into automation anymore but have a couple comments. * I really love my Lutron RadioRa2 lighting as it has absolutely been 100% rock solid for 5+ years. Would use it again in a heartbeat if I moved to a new house. I would look at alternatives if building from the ground up but RR2 if...

To take the concern about the Amazon reviews to another level, Fakespot rates it as an F for questionable reviews. https://www.fakespot.com/product/walabot-diy-stud-finder-to-see-inside-your-walls-android
