I'd like to see what 2.5's would work with ours too.
I have one camera placement that's a little too tight but the camera can't be moved from its current location...
The only issue I had with putting stuff in the attic was it made servicing them a pita.
The heat never was an issue for me though. I just like my equipment more accessible.
I have two indoors. One situated to capture people entering the front door and the other pretty much just to watch the dogs (for the wife).
I think the key like others have said is where you put them. They are not positioned to monitor bedrooms or family room so its not really invasive.
And don't forget it's an IP camera with options for different outputs and ways of viewing the image as previously posted.
I use Blue Iris here at home and with it, I can set popup windows for live viewing on my touchscreens very easily.
This method also relieves my controller (Homeseer) from...
The homeseer plugin for Sonos works great. I use it constantly.
I only have 4 zones though. I agree with you on the price to higher number of zones.
One thing I did is I have the unamplified Sonos in my wiring closet connected to my receiver in the family room via digital coax.
I also plugged...
I like the ability to rotate the camera by that one allen screw. The build as a whole seems solid and like you said before, it doesn't move at all. I have also noticed the wobble on my aircam...
Pete were you able to determine if there's room in the back of the casing to pull the pigtail in and plug in the ethernet cable?
That would be nice!
I do like how accesible everything is with simply unscrewing the front portion.
Yeah...here's a later shot for b&w
@Dan...will do.
I actually just ordered three more of the Grandstreams for my Dad and sister. They need some cameras for a commercial property and I thought this will give me another setup to play with. Guess I have some work to do in Miami next week!!!
That is what I will start to work with this weekend when I have time. I see how one could manage multiple streams...didn't notice it on the Ubiquiti but I'll look better.
Here's some night shots.
Grandstream with no changes made. (full color?????)
Ubiquiti with the porch light on.
I agree with all your points. I installed mine outside and got it set up on Blue Iris. One thing I didn't know and guessed at was I have to use the RTPS port number on BI to get the image. I think I have to do something similar with my android but will have to research that later. I believe...
I got the Grandstream late yesterday and hope to install it today. It is a good looking device.
Nice size and construction for sure.
I have one early observation. I see that the camera has a pigtail on it to allow for various connection options.
Though this is good for the purpose of having...
Thanks for the clarification on the adapter. I wasn't sure if it had to be installed near the camera or not. I like what I've been hearing about Grandstream...can't wait for the camera to get here!
I ordered that Ubiquiti poe adapter for $18 on Amazon...hoping that works well so it can be added to a regular poe switch.
Right now I have 8 cameras but I feel there's a little too much overlap for my needs. I'm thinking about trimming that number down and improving on the fewer better placed...
Thanks for the info on this camera Pete. I'm hoping mine shows up here soon. I'm going to try out a Netgear PEO+ switch with it (GS510TP) and want to plug my Ubiquiti into it too hoping both will work with it as I move more into POE cams. The switch comes in tomorrow but I'll have to wait til...
I'm planning a build right now as well. All good points brought up by picta. Along those lines I've been looking at my layout and mapping out all the wires I will need.
As said above, deep boxes with neutrals and plenty of wires everywhere. When it comes to cat5e or cat6, it can be used for...
@ Pete - So true. It's crazy just driving down the road by my house with wifi sniffer on my phone to see how unsecured networks there are out there. I tell them all the time to lock it down. So many people leave themselves exposed in so many different ways.
@BraveSirRobbin - That's a great...
Good read but I always get perturbed by this topic. It reminds me of many conversations in the past about automated door locks and security implications.
I just don't think its realistic to conclude that the technology is chink in the armor. The thief that is going to break into my house isn't...
