12V fixtures and HAI HLC dimmers?

Hi,

I am wiring some HAI HLC dimmer switches and have encountered an odd problem w/ the pot lights that I can't seem to understand.

I've installed the HLC dimmers on a few pot lights around the house already and they seem to be working fine and dimming as expected.

However in the kitchen, there are 8 pot lights and the HLC switch does not appear to be able to dim them. Dimming is definitely enabled on the switch and I've already tried another switch to no avail. The lights turn on and off as expected and even seem to dim on/off. But whenever I try to dim the lights manually using the rocker it either turns off (bottom of rocker) or turns on (top of rocker) -- there seems to be no in between. Even the indicator light on the switch instantly goes BLUE from full brightness if the bottom half of the rocker is held even for a moment. So it looks like the switch is giving up dimming on this configuration.

It looks like the lights are all LV 12V 50W MR16. But they're working just fine in other parts of the house. What could be wrong with the ones in the kitchen? Is the load too high maybe? Do you think I am wiring the switch onto a 12V line possibly? (To me it looks like the lights each have their own transformer -- but of course maybe in the kitchen its wired differently?). UPB communications are working fine.

Sounds like you may have a different transformer there. You may also want to open UpStart and see what's going on.

Those guys aren't rated for dimming low-voltage lamps. At the moment I don't believe HAI offers one that is. I believe PCS has one, but from what I've heard it's pretty pricey.
