ACT RS232 controller--interesting hardware

Our ACT RS232 Z-Wave controller seems to have a bad radio or antenna inside of it, so we opened it up tonight to see if the problem was visible.

It's an interesting device. It looks like ACT took the USB controller and just added or tweaked a few pieces of hardware on it. The most notable of which is the addition of a small circuit board for the RS232 interface.

It's also very interesting that they are using a plastic screw instead of a plastic anchor to hold down the Z-Wave board. That is probably one of the reasons why the RS232 controller has proven so much more reliable in the field.

I'm hoping we can get this one replaced under warranty . . .
