Advice needed on Sensors

I am new here and need some advice. I am remolding an older home (more like gutting) and replacing all the electrical wiring and adding HA and security components. I have read many posts here and have gotten lots of great pointers.

I recently ordered an Elk M-1, which I should recieve by the end of the week. My question concerns door and window sensors. What are the best sensors to get for

1. Wood framed exterior doors
2. Sliding aluminum windows
3. Sliding aluminum door

Many people use 3/8 inch reed switch, normally closed switches in wood frame windows and doors. A good reference site on switches is here. Many other manufacturers have various switches available. Contact your favorite Distributor/supplier and ask what brand of switches he carries.

I still really like the Sentrol Application Notebook as an excellent guide. While it is Sentrol specific, you can use it to get ideas for other brands as well.
