CQC on sale

:hesaid:

Don't bother with the 2.x stuff at this point. Just beware the 3.0 beta stuff is listed as 2.xx so don't get them confused.

I didn't know there already was a #cqc channel, obviously that will be the better choice.

I have just downloaded the current/latest beta (which is labelled 2.whatever, but as has been discussed is pretty much exact what 3.0 will be) and have been playing with it. I'm using some of the older documentation and vast parts of it still seem to apply with some key difference in the GUI developing area where the tutuorials/documentation are a bit off, but still close enough to be of good help.

welcome to the jungle:)

Us newbies d/l the latest beta. It won't be much different than the 3.0 version and should seamlessly upgrade.
yeah, plus at this point 3.0 is different enough behind the scenes that it could hurt to learn 2.4. I got bitten during the webinar as I didn't realize something had changed.

Yeh, just start with the beta. It will be pretty much exactly what 3.0 will be at this point. If you go to the Beta section of the forum, there's a sticky at the top with the latest beta. There's also a link to the beta web content, which should be getting into pretty good sync with the changes, so use that instead of the official web site, which is still about the current official version.

And yeh, in order to be able to come out with version 3.0.0, we do our betas under the next available previous version, so they are still versions of 2.4.x. When the blessed day arives, we'll change it to 3.0.0 and have a nice virgin release number, at least for a while.

New videos are being created. Those that are done so far are linked to in the beta web content, and it will be updated as more are done.

Do you have a link to where the new videos are located?

For either the official release or the beta release, in their respective web contents, go to Support, then there's a Tutorial Videos section. Only a small number of have been done so far for the 3.0 release. I'll be digging in more on those over the next couple weeks. I may not get every single one of them done before we do the release. We won't hold it off for that.

Here's an example of something that is now possible that wasn't before. I'm creating a custom-built front-end screen so that my wife can modify watering schedule details (and other events, such as automated lighting, or house shutdown, or MBR TTS wakeup) through the touchscreen.

The upside of this, indeed the timeliness of this, is that my wife is beginning to harass me about the watering schedules. She's always harassed me about what the automated light timers were, and what time the TTS weather announcement alarm clock was set to go off.

Now, she doesn't have to use the CQC Admin Interface to modify any of that, although honestly she wouldn't - she'd just ask me to. Constantly. For her, she wants a single UI for this stuff, and doesn't see the point of learning multiple different UI's. I'm still not done, only the first two zones are complete, but you get the point.

I just put up 2.4.54, which is the first release candidate for 3.0, so we are getting very close. There are still some small issues, but only those things that are very safely fixable will be fixed at this point, so that it remains stable. If we don't have any new serious issue in the next week or so, we'll probably go ahead with the release.

And then a much needed vacation for you? :)

Man, Dean's idea of a vacation is having dinner with me/ellisr63/and any other folks who show up. In the nearly 4 years that i've used CQC, I don't think i've seen him take more than a day away from CQC & posting on the forums.

IVB, I dont use CQC but how are you changing times on the fly? I had tried an older CQC trial in the past, but never migrated to it. Is there a new scheduler in the back end? or is it more of saving information in different variables and queing off those?

Same scheduler, but one of the new features of 3.0 is exposing a set of commands to directly change the timing of back-end scheduled events. That way you don't have to use the Admin Interface back-end, you can custom-design a screen.

That's an example of one of those 'invisible' infrastructure improvements that 3.0 has.

The last beta was just posted. Unless something horrible is found, this will become 3.0 early next week, and it ain't too likely anything will be found that hasn't already since there are only two trivial changes since the last build. So last call for alchohol on the sale. Probably just a few days.
