Lately, many people have figured out how to install more software onto the Linksys WRT54G router since it's linux based. There is an article on broadbandreports.com explaining how one company came out with a (free) release of their own firmware for this router, allowing smoother VoIP communications (using QoS, a pretty important feature for many VoIP callers), monitoring and much more. Looks pretty interesting, and some of these features should allow you to integrate it more within your home automation environment.
