elk +insteon

I'm creating a new topic to hopefully spark a little more activity on my post. This was originally posted here

Do you have your elk working with Insteon and X10?

I have two serial port expanders, one for my w800rf and one for the insteon interface. When I upgrade the firmware on the 2nd serial port expander, and then run an x10 command from the keypad, all my x10 lights go nuts, they start turning on and off.

Also, I can't seem to get a single light to work with insteon and x10. After going into linking mode, is the insteon serial port device suppose to start blinking? It doesn't, then I put a lamp module into linking mode and the light on the serial port expander blinks like the documentation speaks about in step 6, so it acts like it is working. Then I go to the keypad and turn turning on a1, and it doesn't work.

I have configured all of my a* lights as serial port expander in elkrp.

Thanks!

I new to this as well (I missed changing the light type in ElkRP), but hopefully this will help:

After going into linking mode, is the insteon serial port device suppose to start blinking? It doesn't

No it did not for me. I am using the latest firmware in the serial expander (a given since you don't have insteon support without it version 50.0.15) and version 1.6 of the serial controller (there are problems if you use lower from other reports). Check the version that you have on the serial expander in question, the one that will be defaulted to when updating would be 1.16 (or whichever that version was). In addition, you need to change the extension on the firmware upgrade so it is .bin (it has something like .bin.remove on it) so the Elk won't see it. May also want to verify you upgraded the right expander (version 50 is only for Insteon though).

then I put a lamp module into linking mode and the light on the serial port expander blinks like the documentation speaks about in step 6, so it acts like it is working.

So you have configured light '255 as InsteonLinking' and 256 as 'Insteon Store' and set them to serial expander types, and then turned 255 on to start linking?

Once you are done, you should see the serial expander blinking three times, then a pause then three times. This means it recorded addresses. If it is blinking steady something did not work. May want to test using a controllinc from that circuit (I originally thought I had an insteon issue in general at first). This will verify that the insteon link is working properly from where the controller is. I in fact moved a signallinc to this circuit.

From my silly mistake (which you confirmed you set properly) make sure the lights are set to serial expander types in ElkRP.

Also, if you have tried this more than once, you may want to reset the expander's memory to make sure you are indeed working with A1. To do this, set jumper S1 to the 0 and power it up. After 5 seconds, put it back to the 1 position. Since I was testing multiple times, I started resetting this to make sure I did not start testing A1 and looking at the wrong light for example.
Then you turn on 256 and then turn 255 off. The instructions do not say anything about 256 (since it is now on) but I have turned it off at this point.

Then I go to the keypad and turn turning on a1, and it doesn't work.

Hope this helps.

Hello

I too started having a problem with X10 lights flashing when a command was sent via a Plug and Power Desk controller.

Then, I noticed I left '255 InsteonLinking' in the on position. :D I reset the system back to default and tried again, no more flashing lights.
