Elk SMTP settings

Hi. I am unable to find a SMTP server which will take not encrypted username and password. Elk Ethernet interface does not seem to encrypt these values.
I tried gmaila dn my sbc yahoo account. Both fail. Is there a workaround?
What do people use to send mails?

Check out this recent thread. Spanky says it does not support encrypted authentication. I've used several email accountsm, usually my isp or host. Your isp email addy I would think would work.

when I called elk recently about my SMTP problems they said they were looking into gmail but I dont know how long or how hard that will be for them
