ELKRM to Russound CAV6.6/iPod release???

What is the timing of the ELKRM Russound CAV6.6 /iPod interface?

From a previous post on the Spanky advised us that there is a serial to ethernet adaptor required. So there is hardware involved as well as a ELKRM software update.....when can we get to purchase the hardware and see the software to support it?

Keen as I have a Russound CAV6.6 awaiting.... :D

Hope Spanky can fill in the gaps.

The ELKRM Russound interface requires a RS232 to Ethernet module. This puts the Russound system on the Ethernet so that the ELKRM which is running on a PC, Touchscreen, or UMPC can communicate with the Russound CAV6.6.

The system was showed at the EHX Show in Orlando. The release delay is the Ethernet module. The ELK Ethernet module will allow about 12 connection sessions.

The ELKRM Russound Interface Software will be in next weeks ELKRM Upgrade release, but the ELK Ethernet Module will not be available.

I understand that the Lantronix RS-232 to Ethernet Module will work, but you will only have a single ethernet connection session.

Thanks Spanky,

Appreciate the update. Can you explain the 1 verses 12 "connection session" and what that might mean when interfacing with the ELKRM?

When do you envisage the ELK version will see light?

In a home with multiple Touchscreens and / or PC's, you may want to have them all connected to the Russound CAV/CAM6.6 at the same time. Each connected device occupies a socket connection or session in the RS-232 to Ethernet server module. In the case of the Lantronix RS-232 to Ethernet module, it only supports one socket connection session at a time or that is what I have been told. We designed the ELK RS-232 to Ethernet server module to support up to 12 socket connection sessions at the same time. So all your Touchscreens or PC's can be on line with the Russound distribution amp.

The same is True with the ELK M1XEP Ethernet module for the M1. It can support up to 30 socket connections. Unfortunately, the M1XEP Ethernet module does not work with the Russound at this time.

Tippy Toe Time frame: More than a week, less than 2 months pending no issues. ;)

Hi Spanky,

Thanks for the clarification.... I suspected number of connections at anyone one time may have been the issue.

So even if I had a Lantronix 232 to LAN adaptor and the new ELKRM upgrade the the current XEP wouldn't allow connection to the Russound anyway. So I will wait until all three catch up and it is an ELK solution, Lantronix to me makes no sense.

I assume that the XEP will have a firmware upgrade around the ELK 232 to LAN release!?

Is the ballerina coming out in you......tippy toeing around!? Appreciate the approx time frame, fits well with my time line.

Thanks for keeping us all in the loop.

Hi Spanky,

It is more than one week and less than two months any progress report on the interface release Serial > Ethernet and also the firmware or are they now tracking together? ;)

I have an iPod bridge docking thingo for the CAV system, will the ELK interface talk to the iPod unit and control it? Given the iPod sits on the RNET control surface could I assume the iPod will be controllabe via the RM interface when it is relaesed or am I far too assumptive!? :D

Cheers,

Fleetz
