Expierences with Plex CCTV products?

Has anyone in here had any experience with Plex CCTV products. They have a ton of systems on EBay (better pricing than website) and am I curious as to the quality of their product. I am mainly interested in their Windows based DVR solution. From their description it doesn't seem like these systems will have a loop out so I would not be able to connect to my modulators without adding some more hardware.

Besides their Ebay store (PlexCCTV) they have a website. Plexcctv.com

Any thoughts would certainly be appreciated.

You get what you paid for and that crap is too much $. Their DVR is within a couple hundred bucks of mine and basically has jack for features, CIF resolution and "MPEG4 like" compression should send you running.

Actually after reading a few of their spec sheets I am confused, as often the discription and the specs are in contradiction.

example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/DVR-System-16CH-Video-...6QQcmdZViewItem

That is one is very confusing as to what the device wil actually do. It says 16 @ 480/480 with 16 audio in "MPEG4 like" compression up top, in the specs it doesn't say how many channels, display frames 120fps or 30fps (4 channels) and never mentions recorded frames with an unspecified resolution and MJPEG compression. Pretty questionable.

Collin - can you recommend any DVRs ~$1000 that have:
8 channels
Triplex
Browser based remote viewer
Motion detection
Trigger inputs
Loop on all inputs (I want to also send some cameras to a modulator)
MJPEG or JPEG2000 (PQ is most important as I only need to hold 1-2 days worth of video)

Alternatively a 4ch system for less that I could add another one to when I go beyond 4 cameras

Thanks for the input. I too found much confusion in the description and found some of the prices high. I did find that some of the auctions (not BIN) stuff can go for much cheaper. For example. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=008

I think I will be better off not using a PC based solution. I too don't have a big budget to be spending for video.

Nope I have one cheaper, PM me but there is a slight line here between my real life business and my online/CT business so it may take a day or two.

Good luck finding one!

All DVRs are basically PCs, be them ATX form factor or some integrated board they both use the same basic concepts. It's just the power supply in your single use DVR might be $250 as compared to a $100 ATX unit. Same goes for basically every other part on the things, they are almost disposable when compared to a standard PC form factor.

I think what you might be looking for is a RTOS (real time operating system) what some consider an embedded DVR, this is a function of the software and not the hardware. However the hardware is bound to the software or it will usually take extensive work to modify the hardware. Don't be fooled though... many if not most "embedded" DVRs are now running a normal linux distribution and although embedded it is not real time. Same goes I have XPe DVRs that also are not real time. You also have XP without explorer which appears embedded but actually isn't. All of these can be built in a VCR shaped box with hardware buttons.
