Okay I figured some of you guys get hosed and sometime completely put off by hardwired solutions. Here is a bundle of tools that will allow basically anyone to install almost anything in most "installable" situations.

Heres the deal.

Min buyers = 5
End Date = TBA, lets shoot for Nov 1, 2007

What do you get???

1- 1/2" X 36" Freeform (conventional) High Speed Steel Drill Bit.
1- 36" Extension for 3/16" Shank Drill Bits.
1- 3/8" X 24" Directional Wood Twist Drill Bit.
1- 3/8" x 36" Masonry Drill Bit.
2- 36" Threaded Male/Female Connector Fiberglass Push/Pull Rods.
1- 36" Luminous Bull Nose Threaded Female Connector Fiberglass Rod (gives three to nine feet of fiberglass Fish Rod for fishing walls, false ceilings, between floors, etc.)
1- Blind in wall retrieval and wire running kit, 10 feet of chain and 24" magnet retriever.
1- 12 foot grabber, must have for window and door switches in attics. Includes targeting LED light on tip, pull wire from 12' away through ~6" access hole.
2- Cable Pulleys, protects ~ 5 Cat5 cables while pulling wire around corners.

So whats the price???

$210+ shipping ~$20 (55" package length)

You may ADD to your package a variety of additional tools. however you must order the complete kit first.

Obviously 5 purchases are required to make this go through, one person may purchase multiple kits.

This seems like a nice setup. Let me ask you whether these tools solve my problem (I don't think they do). I have double hung vinyl windows, in a stud frame wall, filled with correctly installed fiberglass insulation. I have attic and basement access (2 story house with full basement and full attic), but near as I can tell, there's no way to drill through the side of a vinyl window, and then drill up from the basement, to hardwire magnetic contacts.

(Note: I have engineered I-beam wood joists, doubled on the outside wall. I'd therefor need to drill through 1 of those, get the drill bit to point north, and drill up to the window!

4 options, 2 the way the most will do it and a third and fourth much more difficult.
9:10 a pro will drill striaght up or down in the corner and run the wire exposed to the sash. Once you have blinds or sheers it's not noticable.

The other two methods are much more complex and complicated and time consuming.

Method #3
1. Locate the window in the crawl space, drill a 3/4" hole directly below the cavity between studs on one side of the window.
2. Drill a 3/8" hole in the side of the window hole.
3. Insert the chain for the blind wall retriever, even though you only need 48" or so stick 8 feet of it in there.
4. Go back down to the crawlspace. :(
5. Stick the flexible magnetic retriever up from below and move it around until it locks onto the pull chain.
6. Pull the chain down into the crawlspace, tape your 22/2 onto it and go back upstairs.
7. Pull the chain up.
8. Drink beer and relax. :D

#4
1. Remove the baseboard under the window. use tape to mark it's top on the wall.
2. Using the 3/8"x24" bit drill down through the wall at a steep enough angle as to not come out the exterior but penitrate into the crawlspace. <Hard to discribe. :)
3. Drill again more into the wall allowing access to the cavity between studs.
4. Step 2+3 from above.
5. Insert the flexible retriever through the baseboard hole, move it around until it finds the chain.
6. Pull the retriever and chain out through baseboard hole, re-insert chain into lower hole to crawlspace.
7. Steps 6-8 from above.

Yeah they can make impossible possible if you have enough time.

Maybe that would make an interesting how-to :D

Yeah, I was thinking "completely invisible" route would be very, very time consuming, and I think you just confirmed it for me. I'm still somewhat incredulous about the hidden wire technique. Between the jack studs on the window (in some of mine, there are 8!!! ---> lazy carpenters!) and the doubled up I-beams, this would be quite a chore.

I guess Option 1 and 2 also works for the top pane of the window.

I'm a definite "maybe" --> I'm thinking about whether I'm going to actually wire my windows, or whether I'm going to be lazy and buy some wireless sensors!

Thanks. Nice that you've put together a kit selected of items you know work well.

Can we get them to let us host/stream the DVD on CT so we can make good use of these?

I'm still worried about the WAF of showing up in the living room with a 3' bit.

I thought about that but then I looked it up, the DVD for tapes 2-7 is $150 atop this deal. I just figured not too many would want it when they can just reply.

The kit sounds great, except I already have the all the drill bits, and I don't do enough to even think that I could use another set.

If this group buy works out I don't have any problems adding on a set of DVDs if you still want them.

1 down 4 to go.

I'm still thinking about asking for approval for this from the director of finance (and most everything else around the house). Does it look like you are going to get the 5 you need?

Will you be offering kits like this in the future (Christmas time)??? I don't have the funds now, but I may be able to talk the wife into something like this for an XMas preset :(

Thanks
