INSTEON at Home Depot

I saw INSTEON on the Home Depot website this morning. In fact there is a section on Home Automation on their website (under shop electronics) that I have never noticed before. Is this common knowledge that Home Depot is getting into Home Automation? I know Lowe's has a couple Intermatic sku's at selected stores.

I hope so. It would help to be able to run to the local HD for those emergency new switch installs......

True on convenience. However, the switches are listed at $69.99 where they now go for $39.99 elsewhere. At almost twice the price, I think I would be able to wait for my shipment to arrive.

Even the starter kit is full price. Then again I guess it's like everything else, if you want it right now, you will pay for that privilege.

I have discovered that HD & Lowes web sites have very little relationship to what they actually stock. I was looking for an item, HD web said they had it, store didn't. Lowes web said they didn't have it, but the store did. That kind of stuff makes internet shopping painful.

It is nice to see Insteon on the HD web site (where is UPB and Z-wave? lol), but unless they put it in the stores, I don't think they will sell much, especially at full price. If I am going to mail order something, I am going to pick a source based upon price or service/expertise. Right now HD loses on both counts, but I still like seeing them there. :D

We just flipped the switch today (Friday, 30-Sept.-05) to activate web pages on Home Depot, so it is something new to HD and Smarthome. We are very excited about our relationship with HD, but who wouldn't? :p

I was in HD earlier today. Right next to the registers was a big stack of Roomba's (or however they spell it). $279 marked down to $249. HA is moving into the masses.

I want one of these Roomba's but they are selling at least 3 versions and this just confuses the issue. Sam's has one model, Home Depot another, and I've seen one other version somewhere else.

The only real difference is the charger that they come with. Mechanically, they are all identical.

Red - slow charger
Silver/Grey - rapid charger
White - rapid charger with auto-docking station (returns to charge automagically when the battery is low).

I have the white. The wife was very skeptical at first, but now can't live without it. Most of my relatives have them now after seeing mine. If you buy it from Hammacher Schlemacher, they will warranty it for life.

So if you have two areas, separated by a few stairs, you would reposition the charger in the next area and the unit would navigate it's way around the new zone?

I was considering getting one of these for my wife...

Actually the buttons on top of the units are different. I noticed that one has spot clean and the other didn't.

Both of mine are silver/gray. One has the remote control and automatically returns to the charging dock, the other one doesn't.
