Insteon OutletLinc

I know people have been waiting for this, per Trevor at Smarthome's post on techmall.com:

Now taking preorders:

2473SAL - INSTEON OutletLinc, Almond - http://www.smarthome.com/2473sal.html

2473SBK - INSTEON OutletLinc, Black - http://www.smarthome.com/2473sbk.html

2473SIV - INSTEON OutletLinc, Ivory - http://www.smarthome.com/2473siv.html

2473SWH - INSTEON OutletLinc, White - http://www.smarthome.com/2473swh.html

I WANT to buy several, but absolutely REFUSE to do so unless and until Smarthome addresses some of their current problems. Switch paddles that continue to fail mechanically (in equipment bought a year ago and replacements received in the past two weeks!), a PLM that locks up often, an SDM that still hangs on occasion when using the PLC, and quality control issues that are WELL documented on every automation board of which I have knowledge. If some of that doesn't get resolved by Smarthome, I'm going to be purchasing NOTHING from them in the future. I took their latest catalogue and promptly put it in the recycling bin, until they start showing some respect (and putting resources toward) those of us who have MANY problematic Insteon devices.

The launch of Insteon seemed to usher in a new era of low quality equipment at this once-fine company, based on my experience and that of many others. What on earth happened to them?

So tell Trevor (and Joe Dada, their CEO) that their once-loyal base of customers (I've spent a large amount of money, with over 70 Insteon devices alone) are simply TICKED, and will not be buying anything from them until they clean up their act. Maybe if enough people post on the boards, they will FINALLY begin taking us seriously.

2473SWH - INSTEON OutletLinc, White - http://www.smarthome.com/2473swh.html

Since it is only pre-order, I guess they will still be waiting...

Course, leave it to them to sell something they already have a solution for...it is the lack of NEW products that leads many of us to believe Insteon is a deadend.

Maybe it was a mistake as it now also shows 12/03/07 as a ship date, but the Black ones showed 4 in stock this afternoon.

I consider this a new product. Its 15 A over 13 A and you dont need the ugly plug in. HOWEVER I will concide to the fact that .......... the ugly plug ins are a heck of a lot easier to replace when they die :)

They are also coming with the Keypadlinc relay soon as well.

I never had anyone ask for the outlet but I think it could be a big hit once people realize what you can do with them. The Keypadlinc relays should sell like crazy to people using CFL's and ceiling fans etc.

Do you mean the ApplianceLinc / LampLinc? While I have no problem with those units in most cases, I've seen many people ask for a controllable outlet to reduce clutter.

Personally, I love the OutletLinc for outdoor applications where I can't fit an ApplianceLinc in a weatherproof box. Otherwise, I'll stick with the LampLincs which give me the flexibility to easily move them around anywhere in the room.

I had thought of buying these for a few places but the ratings for a tungsten load being 480 watts really does me no good for what people are asking for. For holiday lighting etc the 480 watt limitation is a show stopper.

How come the competition can make a controllable outlet with a 15 A, 1800 watt rating for about $39 and SH cant come close? If it was 1200 watts even I dont think it would be a problem but 480 is not practicle.

It has a 15 amp pure resistive rating. Lamps 480 watts maybe the cold surge when turning on and the relay they picked for the module.
Maybe one of those Goodsky ones like in the ApplianceLincs. ;)
Gee I wounder if anyone has used the new EZSwitch30 from Simplehomenet yet. 30 amp 220VAC. Insteon and X10 addressable.

For $10 more per switch or outlet you would think they could pick a more robust relay. Oh well.......

Joy!

But to late for what I wanted.

I will still probably get a few because I have been wanting these forever.

I had the great Idea of using them in the kids rooms to shut'em down at night but them damn kids kids grew up and went to college.

LOL - there's always the wife's blow dryer after 10 mins of use...

Who has one for $39? The UPB and Z-Wave outlets I've seen are almost $100.

Intermatic just announced a version for $39. I think they ship next month.

A quick FYI: Intermatic has just started shipping their new 600 watt 3-way dimmers, and they're white. Not off-white like the early HA06s, but white white.

They've also changed the color on the HA06s to the same white, so all new HA06s will match traditional white wallplates.

[NOTE: there is also a $20 rebate on any HomeSettings device purchase (limit one) going on through the end of December.]

I'm not sure if I can post links to our online accessory store here, so I'll just describe the new products:
HA14C (600w rocker-style dimmer):
No neutral, extra wire for physical 3-way, supports links (associations) for virtual 3-way

HA20C (600w TOGGLE-style dimmer):
Same as HA14C, but with the basic "toggle" style. You press the toggle switch up or down to brighten/dim (or turn on/off), and it centers itself when not being pressed.

The HA18C (15A relay switch) and HA01C (15A outlet receptacle) are also both supposed to be shipping this month. All four products will probably retail for about $39.95.

It's nice to see their retail-price product line filling out...

Where do you see it as having a 1800 watt rating? Only specs I can find show it at about 900 watt incandescent.

Saw it on the intermatic website. If you find it at 900 then maybe its 900 and I will take your word for it. Go with whatever rating you like but 900 is still better than 480 and its still cheaper. Not in the mood to argue with you on it.

Up to the user to decide what they need and how much they are willing to spend.
