Hmm... I missed it on slashdot... I'll have to read up on it.
If it's truly IP (as opposed to some other protocol over Cat5), it would be a bad idea. IP is not timing-sensitive; will re-transmit as necessary. Your left speaker could get out-of-sync with your right! Perhaps it's really UDP or multicast.
I read that announcement as well, not sure if it was on /. or digg, but it is supposed to be true IP, and it has a built in AMP as well.
An open architecture StreamNetâ„¢ card (optional-not supplied with speaker) welcomes integration with any system capable of streaming packet-switched audio in WAV or MP-3 format and TCP-IP control.
Those are very expensive. I wonder if anyone will create a cheaper version. I wouldnt mind having a few IP speakers just for TTS but at a much lower cost.
