M1DBH and termination problems

I currently have a keypad2, an input expander, and a serial expander hooked into my databus hub, and depending on the configuration, only some of them ever work. for documentation sake, i have a jumper on JP3 on the main board (termination), the termination in J4 of the databus hub, JP1 open on the keypad (not terminated), JP1 open on the serial expander (not terminated), and JP1 on NO for the input expander (not terminated).

Config 1:
J1: Keypad
J2: Serial expander
J3: Input expander
The keypad works. Enrollment shows the keypad at addr=01 and the serial expander at addr=09. The input expander is not enrolled.

Config 2:
J1: Keypad
J2: Input expander
J3: Serial expander
The keypad works. Enrollment shows the keypad at addr=01 and the input expander at addr=02. The serial expander is not enrolled.

Config 3:
J1: Serial expander
J2: Keypad
J3: Input expander
The keypad has "Lost Comm"

Config 4:
J1: Input expander
J2: Keypad
J3: Serial expander
The keypad has "Lost Comm". It appears the serial expander is not even getting power as there is no LED lit up at all.

any ideas?

ok, finally got around to "reading" the M1DBH instructions rather than just "looking at the pictures". I have the keypad hooked up as in the picture, with the green and white/green wires of the CAT5 attached to the green and white wires (respectively) of the keypad for data return. Does this sort of thing need to be done at every device, and not just the keypad?? That is, do the green and white/green wires of the CAT5 need to be connected at the device end for the serial expander and input expander as well?

EDIT:
And just to clarify, if (and when) these extra wires (the green and white/green of CAT5) are connected at the expander, they go into the same Data A and Data B receptacles as the orange and white/orange wires?

Yup, you follow the same wiring approach for all devices on the DBH 'trunks' (they all have the green & green/white wires on the cat5 attached to the green wire of the device)
