too bad it's so pricey :)
Look at the specs. There are people using outboard DACs that cost more and don't have the quality of this thing. It is actually very cheap for a a high end audio purist device.

Ya' know, I picked up a Squeezebox to do audio on my back porch and it works great and I love it. However, $2k for a box that does basically the same thing (the quality of the DAC doesn't mean diddly to me) with the added bonus of looking prettier and having RS-232 control isn't worth an extra $1700 over the Squeezebox.

I still haven't decided on a whole house audio solution yet but I can tell you that at $2k a zone that bugger is absolutely out of the question. Having said that, the Squeezebox is probably a better choice for what I need anyhow but it's good to see that there's another option in case I run into 2 grand I don't know what to do with.

One good whole-house solution... Use your existing Squeezebox to feed a multi-zone amp (Russound or whatever). Buy some additional SliMP3 and/or Squeezebox units off ebay to act as local display/control units. That is, they are synched to the main unit so they display song info and can control the main unit from the remote location. (No need to use the audio on the remote unit since your sound is fed from the main unit via the multi-zone amp).

Similiar to using the Russound media server but with much better local displays.
