My wife kept asking me why we need to install an overhead garage sensor if we already have a door contacts in the door to the laundry. Hmmm. Yeah guys, what are some reasons? :D
Well why are you wiring for stuff you can't explain? :D

It's obviously so you can tell the status of the door, open or closed. It doesn't necessarily have to do anything with security.

Gotcha! :D Glad you mentioned that it doesn't really have to be a part of security. And I also have another question. Her question was, why do I have to put window contact sensors if I will also be putting motion sensor? Can you help me please? Is it because that there are devices that can jam motion sensors?

here's the reason you do both:

redundancy is the key to a system that works well and can easily recover from failures

end of story.

True, but another big reason is that perimeter security is the best. So you want to catch a thief BEFORE they get in (like the window) instead of after (motion). If you were only going to have one, I would use windows, but as Paul said, redundancy is best if you can afford it and implement it.

so guys, assuming you're away, did you configure your system to call the security company if someone opens the door?

Can you please give me an recommendation steps(escalation) in order needs to happen such as call police, security company, page cellphone, email and so on. I'm leaning towards nextalarm.com. Above are just my guesses.

you dont want it to call the 5-0 first. they dont particularly enjoy getting called out to check on false alarms.

If I was you, I'd have it alert you first. then you can check in on your other monitoring devices and decide what you want to do from there. If your system is gunna be monitored by an outside company, you'd be best to have it call them when it calls you.

You NEVER call the 5-0 Direct. They do not accept calls from any automated system.

What most people do that use a monitoring company is:

1) System goes into an Alarm
2) System call Monitoring Company
3) Monitoring Company Contacts you
4) If they can not contact you they dispatch the police or fire depending on alarm
5) If they can contact you, you can tell them to disregard

If you want right after step one have the system also call you and send and email.

I'm sure there have been cases where you guys are not home but are able to talk to them, how do we take care of it then?

Then the monitoring company dispatches the police and if it is a false call you may have to pay a fine. Do you want to take the chance that it is not a false alarm??

If you only want the police to be dispatched per your approval fist why use a monitoring company?? Just have the system contact you and your wife and then one of you can call the police. If it can not contact you then no police are called.
